Paint colour choice

I’m thinking of refreshing the living room as the grey has always felt drab. I got an idea to paint them a blush pink from this front cover. Want to keep it warm and neutral. Feels a bit daring to go pink in a shared area of the house! I plan to get a bigger mirror and update cushions also. Yes or no?

A different suggestion would be to go for a tone which is similar to your fireplace. I've done the is my north facing bedroom and it looks really good. It would be great with your deep blue sofas.

Hi, thanks for your comment. I totally agree - I actually have a large art print on order (vertical/ portrait orientation) and that will be replacing the mirror when it arrives. From previous comments I received everyone seems have different opinions on sofa choices but I think I'm pretty happy with the L shape one I've gone with - it fits the space a lot better (I think!) than the 3 & 2 seaters I previously had. I contemplated going with a different lighter sofa colour but practicality won in the end!

Epoxy resin worktops and colour choices

Hi we would like to change our worktops and backsplash in our kitchen. Has anyone had epoxy resin applied to change worktops. What is the finish like? We will be upgrading whole kitchen in a few years but just want to brighten up what we have. We have elephants breath on the units and black laminate worktops presently. What colour would you put with the units? I'm drawn to the white quartz worktops but I'm not sure if it would be too stark against the warmth of elephants breath?

I'm no expert (at all!) but I think that would work. Worst case, you paint over it!

It will look really nice with the blues, just test a large area near to your fireplace in case you don't like how it looks, it may make your fire look a bit more yellow.

Thank you! I see what you mean about potential for the fireplace to go yellow. Ive struggled to find the right colour for years so does anyone have a better idea?

Setting Plaster has alot of yellow in it so that might be worth trying. What is the other colour on the wall?

The other colour is setting plaster from F&B by coincidence! I was looking at it but I think it‘s too dark and will look muddy with the carpet.

My only comment is have a look at the photo in the magazine again. The couch is grey and the rug pulls it all together with reds and pinks.......

I think it’s going to look great. I have painted my tv room in Setting Plaster and it’s very warm but I can see it might not work with your carpet. Don’t go for too sugary a pink though.

I think if you look at the picture from the magazine, the thing that pulls the look is the rug and the colour combinations within it. I don’t think you really need a rug in a carpeted room but I’d be tempted to go all out with cushions on your navy sofa and bring deep reds and lighter blues into the mix. I wouldn’t repeat the pink in your soft furnishings.

Hi, Have you looked in doing this in 3D first (Virtual Reality), room colours can be changed in a instance and would be much cheaper in the long run, you can save a lot of time and effort, especially picking out paint

What a lovely room. Have a look at F&B Calamine which is a bit lighter than Setting Plaster. Dulux do a blush pink but I can’t remember the name! This is Calamine

Thanks everyone, and for the advice to pull the colours together with soft furnishings. I will definotely do that!

The photo I originally showed you was Pink Ground by F&B. I thought I’d save a bit of money and got it mixed by Valspar. 😬There’s a subtle difference and I’m not sure. I now have both tins so can go for either one. F&B has more red, Valspar is fleshy. Which would you choose?

PS If it makes a difference, Valspar is soft sheen for durability with kids, but FB is matt. If it makes a big differnece visually then matt is fine. And the room is north facing.

I think it's a bit too 'clean' a colour compared to your yellow fireplace and non-clean (in colour terms!) carpet. Setting Plaster does look a bit dark in your light, but I think I'd do more samples of that around the room to check it in more than one place (paint on big white card then you can move it around). And it looks super dark and 'muddy' because you're comparing it to the cleaner pink ground.
