Bedroom Deco HELP!

Hey! Im coming out of depression so decided to change up my room to make me feel calmer by having more storage and more of a colour theme than random colours. The attached photo is the new mirror/carpet/ wardrobe. Note I have to work in my bedroom too.

I still have the old curtains - what colour curtains do you recommend? Do you think blinds will go better? If so which ones/ what colour?

Do you have any other recommendations for deco.

Updating your bedroom/study space is a great way to begin your fresh start :)

My first thought was also Venetian blinds for the windows but because your windows are high, glaring light conditions may not be a problem and they may even restrict light into the room at certain times of day. So an alternative thought I had is Roman blinds. To maximise on light and the windows themselves as a room feature, mount them outside recess at ceiling height.

Whatever blinds you go for they will be less intrusive in your workplace, which is important when u r trying to create ‘calm’ around you.
They will also free up space around the windows which gives you more in the way of storage choices. A slim full-height bookcase between the two would be an amazing addition for this and you could add stylish containers to stop the surfaces becoming cluttered. It would also create a nice spacial separation between your work zone and sleeping area and clear your window sills which at the moment are needed for storage.

Regardless of what you go for, keep the styling around this area gentle and uplifting. Go for calming colours, perhaps consider a textural fabric or an interesting weave for your Romans.

However, before doing any of this make your bed area your priority. Treat it as your special domain to add a bit of you. Because the rest of the pallet will be neutral and calming out of necessity to your work space, go a bit more to town here. Consider layering with cushions, or throws or a ‘must have’ duvet cover. And don’t forget the walls, what about some art work or a shelf for your personal treasures. Maybe consider changing the wallpaper to pull ‘your space’ together, or if u love it use it as your starting point. Once you have created your bit of ‘you’ you can use these choices to identify your perfect neutral pallet to compliment the rest of the scheme and identify any accent colours u may want to single out.

Whatever you do though, don’t pick the paint first. There are 1000’s of paint colours to chose from but only one of you. Start with what makes you happy and brings you joy and work outwards from there.

It's clearly a nice sunny room and the storage looks very smart. If you are after calm colours, sage green or a warm blue could look nice as wall colours and could work with your grey. Since you work in the room, venetian blinds might be useful if you need to provide some protection from sun glare. A painting behind the bed would provide a focal point. Perhaps choose something that ties in with whatever wall colour you end up choosing.

You’ve made good use of mirrors to give the feeling of space. Given the windows are so close, maybe one pair of curtains to cover both would help as it would take out the fabric hanging down next to the desk. Then Venetian style blinds as suggested. Artwork would be a good addition, something you love that makes you happy to look at. Even a photograph enlarged onto canvas. Best wishes, Angie

Hi all, we’re closing on a house Oct 1. and would like to give the master bedroom a little love before moving in... attached are photos of the room (all furniture will be removed). The room is very spacious (measures 13x19 ft), but funky. The windows look to be randomly placed, and it has very high ceilings. Hi guys, I’m at a loss of what kind of other furniture I can add in here. The chimney flute is so close to the bed that I can only fit one locker by the bed. Wondering what I can do with the other side as I have the chimney wall it’s just not even with the other side. Well done for the choices so far and getting your mojo back! I think it's a brilliant idea to upgrade your room - it can make such a difference to how you feel. Totally agree with the previous comments that a venetian blind or shutters would be great. It means you can change the level of light and make the room feel different when working/not working. I know they might feel like they will be harsher than fabric curtains but the way the light plays through them it will give your room a really warm feel. You could go for a colour as well rather than white, like a soft green or light grey too.

I am guessing you want to keep the wallpaper on the far wall? Or are you up for a full revamp? If you do then I would definitely go with a soft green (something like dulux Heritage sage green) on the other walls. It will tie in with the greys of the carpet and creams of the wallpaper and desk but make the room feel calm. Its a really nurturing and calming colour. You could go up and over the ceiling with it or go for a soft white on the ceiling if not.

Definitely get a lovely picture or group of pictures over your bed too (don't worry about drilling! You can use command strips - they're fab and can be removed with no mess either)

Also maybe adding a shelf with some hooks underneath where you have your medals might be nice. You could pop a plant or two on the shelf (and desk) - also great for the air in your room!

Finally do you have a bedside lamp and beside table? I couldn't tell from your pictures but if you have space it's nice to be able to have a light that is not just an overhead light in the evenings. Even if you use a stool or a small shelf on the wall?

Have a look at Tuscan Glade by Dulux. It's a nice relaxing colour I used for my bedroom last year. It comes in different strengths so it's up to you how bold you go. It's turned my room into a real sanctuary!
