best way to fill in this crack?

I am renovating my house and starting with the main bedroom. After removing the wallpaper, a lot of the plaster has come away from the window seal and I’m left with a huge crack/hole near the window seal.

I have since cleared out the crack including the large bit of concrete at the bottom but I’m not sure how best to fill this.

Is it best to fill in with a poly filla and then sand over? We are also wanting to remove the window sill and replace it so not sure whether we need to do this first

I’m a newbie to all of this so any advice would be great thank you!

I would remove and replace the window sill first as you don’t know what further damage may occur when you do this. If you get lots of loose plaster then you may have to resort to employing the services of a plasterer but if it is minimal like you now have then Pollyfiller may be adequate. Mix, apply and sand down before painting.

I agree, replace the window sill first, then make good all the damage in one go. We’ve been using Toupret filler recently and have found it to be very good. Easy to mix and apply, and sands well. But there are plenty of options out there. Good luck. 😃

aaah ! makes sense now - hey any one can grow parsley, basil or thyme ! you can buy them in pots in the supermarket when (and if) you kill them !!! my husband thinks I have green fingers because our herbs always look great !!! little does he know I replace them monthly !!! lol !! and a sprig looks great on tinned soup, that you can then claim you cooked from scratch too !!!

Hi snan - to address your questions: 1 - yes, the lamps work very well. With regard to the height of the larger lamps: do you know how high they would be? If the bottom of the lampshade is even with the top of the pillows that should work. If they are taller than that I think you will be okay with the smaller lamps. Look back again at some of the pictures above to see what I mean. The thing that will look odd would be if the top of the lamps were taller than your headboard. The idea is that when you are in bed reading a book that you want the light to be able to reflect down. As far as the lampshade size goes on the smaller lamps I'm thinking the shorter ones since they don't seem to drop down as far as the larger ones. 2 & 3-Definitely chair by the mirrored bedside locker with one white locker on the other side. Without question. The chair to the left of the bed gave the room life. Use the extra white one in a closet or another room. You don't want to overcrowd your room when you are going for a tranquil setting. 4-Absolutely okay to have bedside tables that don't match and look good in the room. Whether or not you like that is a personal preference though. I would only put the mirrored one next to the bed though if you have the chair next to it. It's how they play off each other that makes it work. If you don't keep the chair next to the bed then I would use both white tables beside the bed. It is also fine that the pictures are off-centre to the wall as long as they are centered to the bed. :)

Gosh, I've returned after a week travelling for work to loads more suggestions - thanks all! To respond specifically: - the house faces south so gets the lovely morning (and in the uk, sometimes the only) sun. - the husband has avoided putting plants in the planters due to maintenance and they're generally twee so comments here have confirmed to me that they will be coming out - love the idea of wooden boxes with the spiky plants and grasses - also like the concept of taking out the grass/bed/tree in front completely out and replacing with slabs - yes to lightening the windows - to the Barn company, I honestly don't mind the advice and I'd never seen sloping garage roofs. - nicking ideas from landscaping of new builds....great idea! - finally, Helen Scholes, I'm embarrassed about the spelling of kerb. Had no idea! Thanks again all.

A15) @Dara Cooke: If you can't afford a quartz or granite worktop from day one then I would recommend using a laminate worktop as a temporary solution. If you don't put tiles up as a backsplash then replacing the worktops can be relatively easy in a couple of years.

Toupret is excellent. If the hole is deep you can apply in layers or pack with wood. A window sill goes on the outside of a window frame. What you are looking to replace is called a window board.
