removing ivy off brick work

last year

Just moved into my first home and the side of our house is covered in ivy. Next door was the same but they’ve removed it but left all the tendrils on the brick work which I don’t want to do.

We’ve killed off most of it at the roots but we are going to be left with all the dead tendrils as you can see at the front. I want to get as much of this off as possible.

Any suggestions? Thank you!

The darn stuff is a nuisance and it spreads like wildfire. My ex neighbours had some in their garden and it has spread all the way along the road. i zap it with weedkiller when it tries to make an appearance in our garden. Can you use a scraper like a wallpaper scraper to remove it all from your brickwork?

Mary, it has been a while since I read the comments. I think you can take your time with growing with your new decluttered kitchen. It is truly beautiful with just the changes. Don't go spend a ton of money, save it and go on a holiday to a state park or something you have always wanted to do. If your friends that you invite over for dinner don't love ...... well just coming over and visiting,.... then oh well. As long as you are happy, but no need to break the bank..... you did great already. I love it, if you do more, please share though? And to bamamom, I so agree with you! My own, awful, claustrophobic kitchen is LESS than 8 ft x 11 ft... yep that tiny and horrible. I have taken out the nasty, dropped ceiling and have the slightly vaulted original one now, but with pipes showing where the HVAC was put in after and then the repiped ones....... I did not know they plumber would do this, much less the others were there.... gag me. And no money to do it up even decent.

OK then I think you might have to work asymmetrically. Instead of many cupboard doors, over your boiler, have one door placed over it with a push in push out system to open it. This will create a smooth "wall" - paint this and the wall above the brick area cream and the brick below grey.I would then change the cabinet on the other side so that you use cream with a grey counter and even grey shelves...Could this work better?More photos would certainly help? Where is your chalet?

The perfect, clean decor-ed, living room....! 1. REMOVE ALL CLUTTER Get rid of sheets on coffee table and sectional Move toys, play mats, Xmas stuff and other general rubbish out Remove curtain rod off window Vacuum and wipe walls 2. COLOURS If you like contemporary and rustic looks - stick to the greys,reds,creams and wooden looks Arrange cushions artistically and in a colour order Make sure there are two of evey cushion. Don't have one odd one out Is the door able to be painting the same as the walls? 3. LIGHTS Are you able to get a chandelier or a lot of LED down lights? Don't get a floor lamp! 4. TV SET Built in TV Set hides cords, switches....etc... Looks much neater and organised TV Set at the moment looks way to low 5. DECOR THE WALLS Add a bit of ompf into the room by simply purchasing some large wall mirrors/Canvas artworks. 6. KEEP CLEAN Dust regularly, wipe blinds, vacuum, spray, mop...! ENJOY.! :)

Easy to do. Use a small stiff wire brush and a small blow torch. Heat the old dry tendrils and brush at the same time. Be careful to protect yourself from the heat. I did a rear wall of a bungalow in no time.

Daisy - yes I have started using a wallpaper scraper to get off what I can which is doing the job

Mrs P/Ricky - definitely going to look at these options for the more stubborn tendrils thank you!
