Hi everyone! I'm after a bit of cleaning advise!

Ok so we rent a house put and the tenant has done a runner,shes trashed the house completely! Blood up walls,animal faeces and acrid urine smell as well as blood up walls,it's horrific! We've took every room back down to plaster and removed smelly wallpaper. Can anyone recommend something to remove urine smell completely that wont cause and issue with wallpaper that will be put on the walls? Smell has just about gone with a lot of cleaning and scrubbing as well as new doors throughout( dogs chewed and wee up them) thank you in advance xx

Sorry to hear you’ve had such a nightmare tenant. Long ago when I worked in a care home setting we were advised to use dog spray to prevent the smell of urine in the care homes. It certainly worked, and none of our care homes ever had a whiff of urine. I wonder whether that might help? Although it sounds as though the problem is pretty serious. (I’m talking about the spray you use to neutralise smells when a dog has “been” indoors.) Good luck, Angie

Lots of ideas....couldn't resist adding my two cents. i copied your photos and did a little cut and paste- it's messy, but hopefully gets the main idea across. i'd put your sofa in front of the large book case, chair by the fireplace, tv on the stand on the wall opposite the fireplace - so you can either look at the fire or the tv. Someone suggested using frames of one color for your photos - an inexpensive way to do that would be to spray paint them all a dark color-black goes with everything. Since your shelves are a medium tone wood, display things that are dark or light so that they contrast against the wood. Limiting your display items pallette to a few values usually helps to unify things. (I think that's why so many people want to paint the shelves or put inserts in the back to help your nice things read more clearly...some get lost). If you want to "splurge" -you may consider having a carpenter make a few solid tall cabinet doors to provide a visual break in the shelving. I'm showing 3 doors - 1 on the right side of the fireplace and 2 on the left to leave two open vertical shelves for display on each side - with things arranged to frame the fireplace as the focal point. To add some height to your big vases, consider stacking some books beneath them. Enjoy experimenting untill you get something you're happy with - good luck!

Kitchen cabinets will look fantastic painted. The thing to consider when thinking about worktops is the work black granite creates - they show every little watermark, so need a lot of polishing. I discovered this when doing lots of experiments on granite samples! Other thing to bear in mind is granite is porous, so you have to be careful about staining the lighter coloured worktops and granite requires resealing after a few years. Because I'm quite lazy and didn't want any maintenance, plus we are a messy family, I went with Compac Quartz in white mirror, it's practically bomb proof and I haven't managed to stain it yet (3 years on). Comes in tons of colours.

Hi snan - to address your questions: 1 - yes, the lamps work very well. With regard to the height of the larger lamps: do you know how high they would be? If the bottom of the lampshade is even with the top of the pillows that should work. If they are taller than that I think you will be okay with the smaller lamps. Look back again at some of the pictures above to see what I mean. The thing that will look odd would be if the top of the lamps were taller than your headboard. The idea is that when you are in bed reading a book that you want the light to be able to reflect down. As far as the lampshade size goes on the smaller lamps I'm thinking the shorter ones since they don't seem to drop down as far as the larger ones. 2 & 3-Definitely chair by the mirrored bedside locker with one white locker on the other side. Without question. The chair to the left of the bed gave the room life. Use the extra white one in a closet or another room. You don't want to overcrowd your room when you are going for a tranquil setting. 4-Absolutely okay to have bedside tables that don't match and look good in the room. Whether or not you like that is a personal preference though. I would only put the mirrored one next to the bed though if you have the chair next to it. It's how they play off each other that makes it work. If you don't keep the chair next to the bed then I would use both white tables beside the bed. It is also fine that the pictures are off-centre to the wall as long as they are centered to the bed. :)

It makes me cross that people think they have a right to make some quite negative comments on this post. Masmccar76 put these photos on because she thought people would like to see a genuinely lovely transformation of her garden. Instead there have been some downright nasty comments. By all means make comments but keep them constructive. Houzz is all about is sharing ideas, not about being nasty

Don’t use bleach as bleach and urine both have ammonia in them and can make the smell worse. I wonder if Febreeze will work? There are also pet smell eliminators for sale at Amazon such as this one. Mostly 5* reviews.

Many years ago i was given the advice of using white vinegar to neutralise cat pee. I suppose it is as effective for dogs. So i have used it for many a year to cleanse cat trays, maybe a good wash down with vinegar will help?
