Kitchens Design Dilemma Flooring

Flooring for an off black & brass hardware kitchen

Hi all, trying to choose tiles for kitchen / dining extension area. Not sure what colour works with an ‘off black’ and brass kitchen. Thinking the worktop will Calcutta gold quartz.

Tiles I like are light grey (qamar pearl) but don’t think they work with the brass hardware.

Any ideas or suggestions? Many thanks in advance

Hi. I love your couch and if light is an issue, I would think about a large mirror because it'll bounce the light around the room (your little starburst one is a bit wasted over there). Mirrors don't have to be expensive - look in charity shops and second hand shops. If you go for a large canvas, make it quite colourful so the boring walls fade away. Again, you don't have to spend a fortune - there are lots of websites with affordable art. A floor lamp would be great and if you get a ceiling light, make sure it isn't so low that it blocks whatever fabulous new item you have hanging behind the couch. I'd see how it looks when you've done this before you paint or also to help choose your paint colour so it goes with mirror/art. Good luck!

Maybe if you stuck to one colour scheme such as white and purple or grey and lime green, colours that compliment each other. You could have a cabinet on the larger side with some family photos or a mirror above it and maybe a single colour on the top half of the wall and a complimentary wallpaper on the bottom half. You could go for wood on the floor or a simple soft carpet but it might get muddy. You could also have a bench with storage underneath for shoes and bags, but try get a colour that matched the walls. You could also paint the banisters if they don't match the rest of the room.

I agree, I think the kitchen units are quite charming. The tiles date it, the top of the dresser and the piece over the window. Agree, would paint the ceiling a soft chalky white. I know they're becoming a little overdone but metro tiles would suit but handmade ones in a soft white unless you just remove the tiles altogether and have a splashback by the oven. Can you afford to update the floor? The dresser offers good storage space, have you considered either just removing the top half or updating the top so changing the architrave and glass panes? The fire itself looks lovely, do you need the heater in front? I also like the brick but the recesses are dating it. I definitely wouldn't paint the brick, if you were to do anything I think it would need plastering over to cover the niches unless you are able to match the brick. Do you have a better pic of the firep? If you are set on painting the kitchen units, I would look at the really dark greys and inky Blues for the base units, as I think they'd suit the style well, with brass cup handles with a very pale grey for ŵall units. Or if you want the same colour units, look at a mid tone grey.

Loads of options as you basically have a black canvas. I love a rich teal, or dark turquoise. You could also consider wine or pink, or indeed red, but careful of tones

I had to look up Quamar Pearl. Several images show up but i think its fine to go with what you have in mind.

Just one small point that I noticed on your image was that the hinges are chrome and the handles brass (love brass handles which are making a come back) so would it be a consideration to have brass hinges too providing they are not already in position?

Thanks so much Daisy. The hinges won’t be on display but thank u. Would be going with brass if they were. Having trouble finding all black appliances I.e. without chrome so I don’t have that problem. This is the tile

That tile is one of the ones I looked at and think it will suit. Appliances are still difficult to obtain with many being out of stock so if you do see something you like and it is in stock, don’t delay and buy it.
