Worth the cost??
Have got an excellent architect to come up with an extension idea. Trying to figure out if worth the cost or whether I should try start again but working with the space I have and just changing internal layout instead of an extension. The current extension idea involves pushing a big retaining wall back by 1m and changing layout of garden stairs too.
The cost of extension at least like 75K without cost of new windows/bathroom or kitchen so 100k+ I’d imagine. House prices where I am are insane right now so I could sell and buy a bigger house not too far away for same price as I could sell it for currently.
Just looking for what people think about the flow of the kitchen space - too cramped or good flow?

Comments (6)Hi Emmie, My only tip would be to attach your custom-build structure to the wall, one way or the other, to avoid... tip-ping :) If I can picture what you intend to do correctly, you will need to anchor it to the wall. It doesn't involve structural changes necessarily, just a few screws into the wall studs. Other than that, make sure you use the right materials / thickness to support what you intend to display (ie, the shelf for the TV should be thicker than a shelf used for just 1 or 2 picture frames). 2 years agoYes I read that article too and was wondering if we would end up with an unused front room - but if we were staying here for good we’d end up having a house with 3 teenagers, 2 adults and a dog in years to come and the small living space in the kitchen isn’t enough for essentially 5 adults!
There are currently 3 bedrooms and an en-suite upstairs - there was a plan to change the layout of these slightly to increase the size of the bedrooms and make the bathroom communal to all - but that cost of that alone seems like it’s not worth it and we can make do the way it is or tweak it slightly for less cost.

2 years agoWould this save some money? Still a small extension needed to the current utility to make it a bedroom but other than that it’s swapping rooms about.
