Pleading for Lighting advice please…..

We are building a large open plan kitchen, wine/dine and lounge area. Including three roof lanterns (1 biggy over island, 2 smaller over lounge area) see pics below.

Has anyone got any advice on ceiling light planning? I’ve got this far with the kitchen company adding lighting within all the furniture but I’d really like to make sure the lighting really works and the electrician has given me until Tuesday to decide what I want where! So any help or advice would really be gratefully received. Or major do’s and dont’s from your

Tough question! I'd think about, first, consulting with a lighting design professional before going ahead. There might be a way to run an insulated sleeve from the source point, through the insulation and the sheetrock. Another possibility might be to "gang" or bundle the lights. This would not eliminate the need to open the insulation up but it would cut down on the number of openings you'd need. Finally, if there's no other alternatives for you, use LED surface mounted fixtures. There are a huge range of designs which could work for you.

A15) @Dara Cooke: If you can't afford a quartz or granite worktop from day one then I would recommend using a laminate worktop as a temporary solution. If you don't put tiles up as a backsplash then replacing the worktops can be relatively easy in a couple of years.

Hi There, Does anyone know if recessed ceiling light positioned on each side of main bathroom mirror would give good lighting for make up etc? I have small bathroom and was hoping to put 2 recessed over the bath area and 2 recessed (further together) over the mirror. I could do wall lights but design does not lend itself to this. Thanks for thoughts

Rear south facing extension design dilemma

We are adding a rear single story extension to our semi detached 3 bed house, the rear of the house is south facing so lots of natural light, our current design is for a pitched roof with Velux in the roof and triangular windows on the back wall. Has anyone encountered blinding shafts of light through these upper windows? At the moment we notice in autumn / winter / early spring when the sun is lower we have to put the blinds down at the back of the house. The blinds for triangular windows I find ugly and dust magnets, but our architect thinks I am mad to remove them from the plans Many thanks for all advice
