a kitchen? a dining? a living?

Hello!!! I've been trying to figure out what to do with my kitchen space.

Here is the plan of the space:

And here is how I would do a layout while trying to fit a small sofa and a (possibly rolling) table for 2, without obstructing the view and all the light that comes through the window:

Any recommendations?

(The room was just supposed to be kitchen/dining, but I had to convert half of the main living room into a workplace so that's why I'm trying to fit the sofa there.)

Hello Mary,

Instead of having the workspace on the far left, you could consider having the sofa left of the double doors with a computer screen on that wall. A desk area/eating area could then be placed behind this. You could add full height units with a fridge/freezer and oven area left of your walkway (depending on the depth of the space there). Adding a peninsular may be too tight in the walkway but could be a good solution if it fits.

I concur with the above comment: Just have archways installed rather than doors - not only will it be more open but it will be less costly... ...tho to open the living room even more, consider relocating the LR fireplace to the opposite wall and centering a larger archway to the hall opposite it - where the fireplace is located now. I might also consider installing an archway or doorway to the left of the fireplace in the sitting room - It will make your sitting room less of a dead end and passage to your study, kitchen and powder room more direct.

Absolutely don't swap them. You have very good reasons to picture them where you have. It's where they belong. In an open space like this, you can get away with a chandelier in the lounge as long as you have one over the dining table as well. If there's only one, stick with the dining room. That leaves the warm, elegant and relaxing light for lounging by and the double-ended rectangular light for better efficiency working in the kitchen. I absolutely love that pendant lamp, btw. Beautiful.

A15) @Dara Cooke: If you can't afford a quartz or granite worktop from day one then I would recommend using a laminate worktop as a temporary solution. If you don't put tiles up as a backsplash then replacing the worktops can be relatively easy in a couple of years.
