How to stop kitchen tap spraying and why it happens!

You may have noticed, with some frustration that your kitchen tap no longer runs as smoothly as it once did. With stray streams of water shooting off to the side of the sink or the flow of your tap being reduced.

Limescale and Hard water.

The culprit behind your malfunctioning tap is none other than limescale, you’ve likely already noticed some of the hard deposits around the tap but these same deposits will have built up in the tap as well. This reduces the aperture through which the water flows either restricting the flow or causing a jet of water to shoot off in a different direction. Much like when you hold your thumb against a hose. Limescale forms if your home is fed byhard water. Hard water contains high concentrations of minerals, mainly calcium carbonate. It is these minerals which form the limescale.

How to deal with the blockage

The best way to deal with limescale is actually to use white vinegar! The acidity of the vinegar is very effective at breaking down the hard scale deposits. You’ll need to make sure the offending area of the tap is left to soak for a few hours. If you have an aerator or a detachable head on your tap its as simple as removing this section and leaving it to soak in some vinegar but it’s a little trickier if the tap is fixed. The best way to get around this issue is to fill a plastic bag with vinegar and wrap it around the tap, then fasten the bag to the tap using rubber bands or twine.

Once you’ve left the tap to soak long enough simply remove the sections from the vinegar or remove the bag from the tap. Give the affected areas a quick scrub to remove more stubborn sections and then run your tap to wash away the rest. Your tap should be back in good working order and the spray should be a thing of the past.

How to prevent blockage

Now that you are armed with a technique to remove the limescale build up you will be able to tackle this problem when it happens again. Due to your hard water limescale clogging your taps will sadly be a recurring problem. But it doesn’t have to be! One of the best ways to prevent limescale from forming the is the of a water conditioner!

My 2¢ worth: first of all replace the dark blinds with translucent cordless single cell blinds in ivory or off-white--they let light through and provide privacy + some insulation from cold or heat. Clean, crisp look.That alone will brighten up this space. #2: clear the counterspace!--so much clutter! Where to put all these appliances that get little daily use? Get yourself a ss 24x20 or larger cart on wheels (see Amazon.com--Seville classic ss cart) and store little used, bulky appliances on its shelves--and roll the cart into a nearby coat closet--out of sight and way-- to be wheeled back when needed or individually carried back as needed. 3#gorgeous blue tiled walls.Don't touch them. #4:Walls: keep as is if off-white--not same as trim white white.Just a fresh coat needed.To make it "disappear," paint the radiator the same color as the wall behind it. #5Keep the white trim white--looks bright and clean.Keep kitchen door white. You might want to stop here and make no further changes #6Cabinets: I like Gast pic above on right, but too much blue for your blue-tiled kitchen...IMO. I'd go cooler and lighter...consider the light gray of the beadboard in the Gast pic above right. Beautiful hue. Don't go for the white white everyone clamors for these days.Too stark for your kitchen and too contrasty with the blue tile, too country kitchenish. #7. cabinet hardware: Look like glass knobs in pics. Go for knobs/pulls like in the Gast pic above--or similar in pewter or ss, my preference. Those "modern" ss bar handles don't work with your cabinets. #8 the round table is not a good fit against the wall. Get a small sq or rectangular ss or butcherblock-top table for that spot. Chop off the top tier of your chairs to shorten....and match their tops as they are now so's won't appear to take up so much visual space and still remain comfy--don't replace w/ uncomfortable stools.Keep white. #9. Do away with wood valance over sink window.Too country. #10 Countertops--solid color Corian type or laminate--depends on budget--don't want busy stone textures of quartz, etc. Consider a medium value cool gray. (Or maple butcherblock?). Can't see color/texture of floor.... hope some of this helps. Good luck! lisianthus' pic tho nice is too busy-cutesy for your minimalist aims IMO

fragle0 ... congratulations on the new addition to your family. Have been following your lovely changes. You probably won't have time to work on the decor for a while. Just wanted to suggest that you try pulling the nesting tables forward to be more in line with front of the chairs & placing your floor lamp to the back of them. This will give a bit more light at night for reading in that area.Also switching the plant by the fireplace & the one on the corner by the sofa.

Otherwise these things eat away at you ... And being on a downer that's not good for anyone ..........including you .... You have a Talent truly you do Lots see it ...... Even if you can't ....... I think it looks great so far. Many of the ads for claw foot tubs, and magazines, show them with encaustic/cement tile and plain white surround. Also, you did something creative and attractive with the tile layout. I love the nickel shine of your clawfoot legs too. If you can maybe get a corner shelf on one side of the wall, you'll have a place for soap, candle or bubble bath. And maybe hotel towel holder on another wall to get the height up. Congratulations and thanks for sharing.
