Wall colour change in open hallway

Would love some help with choosing a wall colour. The cream sofas are staying (heirloom so kinda stuck). The whole scheme is too beige. Would love a green/grey on the wall and would love some help. Also maybe to do the alcoves or chimney breast in a stronger colour. Any other ideas to modernise the room a bit would be very welcome. The other side of the room is a stairs with under-stair storage panelling - painted the same colour as the skirting. Thanks!

Love your room, we have Farrow & Ball Mizzle, its a light greyish green with Little Green Clay Mid which is really a soft white with a tiny hint of grey on skirtings and doors. That would leave you free to go for a stronger colour on the back alcove walls without 'darking' the room much.

The upper sample green on your wall should match well with these colours.

Colour would be easily brought (and changed) in with rug, cushions etc,

Thanks so much Lynn. Really appreciate it. I moved ahead on similar lines to your advice - see pic. Still pondering rug and better cushions and also if I were to introduce another accent colour what would it be 🤔

I love dark walls and I think your hall with the shiny floors and the right finish on the wall make it special. You already have the wrought iron, which definitely dictates a certain look. I hesitate to recommend a specific color from my monitor, but look at the BM colors in the 1037’s through the 1078’s and see if there is something there which looks good with the tile.

There are several ways to visually widen a narrow hall and shorten a long hall. Floor: To widen a narrow hall use a diagonal floor treatment, e.g. stencil large diamond pattern on floor. To shorten the hall, use two or three runners to break up the length of floor rather than one long runner. Walls: Long walls can appear shorter by breaking up the horizontal lines.. This can be done by arranging pictures in groups rather than distributing them along the length of the wall. Hang a large painting, print or tapestry on the end wall or paint your door an accent color to create a feature. Another way to shorten a wall is create vertical sections on the wall. Trim can be used to create panels, groupings of art can create sections or large objects such as a mirror can define the segments. Directed lighting illuminating these section will also de-emphasize the length of walls. Ceiling: Minimize the visual impact of a long hall by bringing attention to the ceiling. One approach is to align the panel wall sections with ceiling panels or coffers. Or hang interesting pendant lights or a bold chandelier to redirect visual interest away from the walls.

Paint the doors black matt and the fames cream add silver crome door furniture. Huge silver mirror above the covered radiator then add a runner of any colour you like and match it with the lamps and lighting. hey presto done.

RAL 7044 is a good chameleon colour that will pick up the grey/green tones in the tile. It is quite light and the colour changes with different lighting. Keep it simple and choose a natural coloured carpet for the stairs.

Wow, your colour makes such a difference and allows pictures and lamps to show.

Only my thoughts re:

Rug - your flooring is beautiful it seems a shame to cover it with a large rug and an awful faff lifting furniture to hoover and clean. Maybe see how the room looks without it.

Accent colours really depends on whether you want to cosy up for the winter - then go for cushion/ throw wise

Dark mustard/dull gold will pick up your star light
