Please help me - New build living room decor
Hello, I have bought a new build house - all the walls are white, and I really dislike them! We have coving, the living room is at the front of the house so doesn't get the sun, and has no spot lights just 1 pendant (I will add floor lamps)
We have a chrome TV stand and side tables / curtain pole, but need to decide wall and curtain colour. The carpets are plain cream.
The photo below is what I love, but I cannot find this type of colour anywhere or know if it will work? I love a regal type look. Below is also a photo of the colour and fabric of our sofa's.
What should we do with the walls and curtains? Please help, all ideas are greatly appreciated!

2 years agoYou may need to wait a few months to paint if the house is brand new. However you could try farrow and ball jitney when able. If the room is dark though you may be better looking at lighter colours like skimming stone. Curtains just go a shade or two lighter than the walls and make sure the rail is long enough to pull them right back. I’d also add a large mirror to try and bounce the light.
Just personal view but if thats the French Connection Zinc sofa then a scandi/mid century style may work well?

Comments (21)Seeing it as an almost whole, I do think now that I like the soft, patterned curtain for the room. It could become overly severe, and that would be enough to stop that happening. Second thought, you don't need a side table for the sectional, but you do need something there to hold a lamp -- silver or glass would probably be best. The stand could be very plain, a box shape, even, in the same finish as the wood you already have. I liked these from wayfair.com -- though I might change the shades on a couple of them. Comments (17)You can paint the inside of FP opening charcoal and then I would go for a blue/grey and not greige. Those colors tend to be very dark. You have black furnishings and a blue/grey would look very fresh. Your art above FP has blue in it, so replace rug and get some pillows for sofa that will bring in the colors of the painting. Why not just put in some shelves, one big enough to hold tv. That would give a more open concept to room. If you need one enclosed to store components, that would fit also. Comments (4)In the main I agree with Patricia. I would move the dining table to the living area, move the living area to the kids room, move the island a little more to the right so it is just a little more over than the width of the entrance walkway, at the moment it is more to the left and almost interrupts the entry flow enough to keep catching your self on the edge, with the table moved it will allow this, plus there may be enough room for more storage on the right hand wall decorative or practical and naturally shallower than standard depth, consider what it would be used for then you can make an informed decision on depth. The island sink and bin are not far from the tall unit pantry and fridge, so no I don't think they are to far away, whatever you get from these places are to be opened probably by the sink or bin, or opened to eat from the packaging. Also why would you have a log burner and an aga in the same room unless your aga is an electric one? They both give of tremendous heat, an aga is constant and unless you have planned for other oven types it will be year round so summer as well, as Patricia mentioned bare in mind how the sun transits your house, where it's position is when you will be in these areas which I'm guessing will be most of the time. I know plenty of people who gave had " improvements revamps etc" to their kitchen dining living spaces with plenty of regrets, loads of glass to bring the outside in, underfloor heating and an aga, the underfloor heating is switched off you can't zone it to where you want it, and the aga gives of to much heat with the glass combined, all the hard surfaces, no acoustics were considered by the so called "architects" sound is a problem too, something else to consider, someone else had to have some of their new kitchen change to make room for an air conditioning unit because of the heat, this is very expensive to run constantly, summers are almost unbearable, these things also affect materials being used such as leather and wood drying out and cracking/splitting.
