Help needed with a wooden floor, SoS

Hi there, I hope someone can help me here :)

I am renting a place and it has a nice wooden floor, I didn't check it much when I moved in as both myself and the owner had a lot of boxes and luggage. Until a couple of weeks ago, I had a cleaner and she was using the Method concentrated product to clean. After the last time she came, I started noticing that some residue was left on the floor that looked a bit like glue. Once I tried to clean myself with Method, I noticed that the residue marks had a similar shape to the drops you get when you squeeze the Method product. I don't know what to do, I would like to remove them but without damaging the floor. Can anyone help me here? I will attach one picture of the marks and another with the drops of the fresh cleaning product. Thank you so much in advance. ND

Looks like your cleaning product is removing the finish on the wooden floor. You will need to find out the type of oil or vanish used on the floor and lighting rub down and recoat the floor.

It is probably a water based product. Popular ones such as osmo oil are used on timber and would probably be affected by the product you used.

Hi catbox/emerald18 - your kitchen is absolutely stunning - I love it - mostly because your style is the same as mine - only the tiles I've chosen are Henley Cool from Topps Tiles (sage green/blue). I've also had a few moments of indecision but I've had a picture and sample of the tiles pinned up for months and I still love them. I'd chosen matt slab style kitchen door fronts but I might be convinced by your photo to change to Shaker. I am also going for the wood worktop but can't decide whether to have a Belfast sink or not. What sink did you choose? I also can't decide on a splashback, but like white painted brick + something more cleanable by the sink and hob. Once again, I love love love your kitchen - I'm pinning the photo of it up with my tiles picture in case I get future wobbles about my dream kitchen

I would choose a wide plank, hand hewn product. Many manufacturers out there to choose from. It will hold up much better and should achieve your design your looking for. Good luck!

Hi, I would incline to tiling the whole space in one material. Now, with that you have lots of options in terms of material choices. If you have underfloor heating I would recommend to go for porcelain tiles - they come in wide range of colours, patterns, stone and wood imitations. Marble and wood imitating tiles are very popular and timeless such as calacatta white marble, creme marfil marble, granite, slate. Wood porcelain tiles range from blonde tones, light, dark browns to almost black, zebrano. Porcelain tiles technology has evolved so much over the last decade that an untrained eye can not distinguish the porcelain from the real thing. And if you have children it's so much more practical as well. Easy to clean and maintain. However, if you don't have the option of underfloor heating I would recommend wooden flooring. Again throughout. I wouldn't break the flow with different flooring types. If you have your living room in that open plan as well, I wouldn't worry too much about changing the flooring type just because of it. You can always use large rugs to define the area and function of that space, and make it more cosy. I just completed a project with porcelain tiles throughout. You can have a look at my profile. Thank you Rowland! Ok so you think it is removing it? I thought it looked like a clot of clue on top of the floor. I used the Method natural wooden floor product that is should be for the wooden floors :X I messaged them about the problem but they didn't get back. So once |I find out the oil or vanish I can do it by myself? how do i remove the 'clots' first, do you have any ideas? Will it be expensive to hire a professional you reckon? It' snot my floor and I don't want to mess up.

I honestly would not try a DIY job on a rental floor unless you are 100% sure - if it goes wrong you could end up having to replace the whole lot. It looks raised and shiny - are you sure it wasn’t already there and is just some stray varnish from when it was last done? I can’t see how a wood floor cleaner could infiltrate the finish and leave marks like this. If you’re sure you’re responsible (or your cleaner is) then I’d ask someone who specialises in wood flooring along to get an expert view of what it is and how to deal with it.

Also there seem to be drag marks from the circles- I wonder whether they are poor repairs done in the past, are they in an area likely to get damage (eg under dining chairs) or are they all over the wood? If it’s the cleaner then surely the spots will be everywhere.
