Awkward kitchen space

Any ideas to get this awkward part of the kitchen to feel more balanced and make some kind of use of it? Sorry about the mess I have been doing some painting. We have the dining table in another space so don’t need that here. We don’t want to lose the mirror as think it opens up the room. Want a radiator cover but not sure on style or colour bearing in mind the modern kitchen. Some seating for guests could be nice as people tend to congregate here but not sure how that would work facing on to the back of the bar stools.

You don’t give the measurements and it looks as though there’s only a narrow space. Would a small armchair fit either side of the radiator?

The space I am wondering about is shown as dining on the plan, it is 270x155cm, and of course we still need space to walk through!

Thanks everyone. AMN - The lighting in the photo isn't great - the walls and venetian blinds are both white and the green is a wallpaper. I've a TV on one side and radiator on the other side of the wall but I do like the idea of painting it a different colour. What do you mean by "because the sectional is too big for the space already" thanks! Dar Eckert - like your suggestion of introducing another colour, I was thinking about aubergine but again it could be over modern and not the slightly warm vibe I'm looking for - what do you think? Carolyn - thanks for posting the rug, going to look it up and see about shipping costs etc to Ireland from that site. Really happy with the rooms but we've just had a baby and I want a bit more of a cosier feel with her around whilst still keeping with my modern twist!! Long post, sorry!!!

I am sorry to say you don't have room. You are only giving yourself 36" in front of the ovens and only 31" for passage on the opposite side and 42" is not enough between the island and the sink. You might find a smaller 30" wide x 48" moveable stainless steel prep table and placed in the opposite direction, it might work for additional counter surface but not give you the seating you would like.

Hi - I’m looking for any advice on decorating the corner behind/above my TV. I have some pieces there now to just fill up the space but they aren’t my favorite and they don’t seem to flow. To me it's a toss between storage and work surface. My inclination would be to use it to shelve out, but it's not wide enough to step into and have shelves. If you lose a press to allow for this are really only gaining the top shelves. You would also have to move your sink. Btw I would swop out your DW and WM anyhow as having the dw beside the sink for rinsing is a must!

I agree with Daisy: a pair of (tallish) armchairs. Quite bold upholstery would work well.

Or perhaps a desk area backing onto the cloakroom; or a small, high bar table under the mirror and two more bar stools (same style but a contrasting colour to those on the island)?

I absolutely love your herringbone kitchen tiles, btw.

Two ideas not sure how practical either one is! You could consider changing radiator for a taller (and narrower) column style radiator and that would give you more wall to work with. As per previous suggestions you could add a couple of slim armchairs against the wall.

Second idea is to again change radiator but for something much shorter and squatter, lower profile and close to the floor and then have a bench (with comfy padded seat cushion) running the length of that alcove?

Thank you all, these are great ideas. You might have guessed I like neutrals! But maybe I could try some tan leather or something. Thank you Jen I had the tiling done recently, I am in love with it, up close it is even more beautiful, amber marble 😍 not the most practical but I fell in love and couldn’t stop myself

I’m also voting for a low rad/long bench with cushions. But then I’d use the left hand wall of the alcove to add something that gives the ’nook’ a deliberate identity. Perhaps a nice bookcase for cookbooks etc or a mini cocktail bar!
