Can't decide between matt or gloss tiles for all of the ground floor (open plan kitchen diner lounge and front lounge as all open plan want to keep the flow) . I'm worried glossy will be slippery? Are matt harder to clean? Can anyone share their experiences? Thanks in advance
My brother has shiny porcelain tiles and he regrets it. They really show every bit of dirt. I have Matt porcelain which mimic slate so dark grey. Really easy to clean but it does show up those pesky crumbs as it’s dark. I think it is also personal taste.
I’m going to throw a spanner into the works ! We have shiny tiles in our kitchen going through into the hall . They have been down for ten years and I have absolutely NO regrets . They look perpetually clean ( visitors always comment on them ) , are easy to clean …. never any smears( I use a steam mop ) , reflect light , making our kitchen bright even on dull days , they are not slippy . However our tiles have a pale mottled effect in them , they are not a flat colour , which perhaps helps with the look . We also have two dogs….muddy paw prints wipe off in a trice . I’ll try taking a photo later to show you .
@ali270 your glossy floor looks lovely! I see what you mean about reflecting light. Our garden is also north facing. I think there's pros and cons to both, gloss is easier to clean but need cleaning more often and can be more slippery than matt. Style wise i was going for quite a modern look so didn't want a glamorous shiny look but more cool and sophisticated. I don't want the floor to stand out, I want it to be very neutral light colour, light gret almost white.
