living room - need ideas
We have recently moved into a new house that is a blank canvass, grey flooring and white walls everywhere. I have a plan for most rooms but i just cant decide what to do with the living room. Its small and square. Its looking very boring and not at all homely. I know i need lamps and throws and pictures but before that i just cant decide on a colour scheme. Struggling to even decide what tv unit / coffee table to get. Do i go for oak/ rustic to match the top of the fire but not sure if that would look dated? Or dont know if to get white furniture and paint the wall? Planning to put a smaller tv in this room as the current one just looks too big. If anyone has any ideas of what might look nice to start me off it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Comments (16)The pictures you have above the sofa would serve you better if displayed in a hallway or foyer or even in a larger collection of photos in a family room. You definitely need more color in this room and a larger area rug. The sofa and wall colors look the same on my computer, so I suggest you paint the walls a color that will make the sofas stand out more. I also would suggest you find a much larger, print area rug that contains an accent color and center it in the room. Perhaps you could find a large, colorful picture to serve as wall art and also as the inspiration for the color scheme and especially for the accent color I suggested. In addition to the rug, you could use the accent color in throws and throw pillows to be placed on the sofas. I also would like to suggest that you add a wide piece of white-painted trim above the windows/patio doors (whatever) and attach the metal rod to this piece of trim. 2 years agoThe room looks quite dark unless its just the photo? Which way does it face? i might try farrow and ball skimming stone (or elephants breath depending on the light) and accent with dusky pink etc. I’d consider painting the skirting boards in the wall colour and if in budget swap the curtains for roman blinds as they should make the room feel bigger.
the tv is quite large but looks much less so with something over the fire?

- Shelf above sofa with some plants (devils ivy, spider plant, parlour palm)
- Artwork and mirror above fireplace
- Feature wall colour on fireplace or band of colour across all walls.
- Tv and narrow t-unit on wall opposite L-sofa.
- Large area rug.
