Blind Type/Material Ideas for Cloakroom Blind?

We've just finished converting our understairs pantry into a small cloakroom and I'm now looking to install some kind of small blind to add to the finish. The window is glazed with obscure glass and is not overlooked in any way so it's just for aesthetic reasons really. I was wondering if you have any ideas for the style of blind? What fabric/pattern etc? The tiles are quite bold so don't know whether to go plainish to let them stand out or contrast to give a more edgy look?

I agree with everything said so far. Would suggest you get built in book shelvers on both sides of fireplace, lift tv into a slot it fits perfectly into (make sure you have power on both sides). Then it will disappear more rather than fight with fireplace as focal point. I am always disappointed with mirrors over fireplaces, they become dark, are to high to reflect much. Plus then you have three rectangles fighting for center stage. I'd say very colorful artwork instead. Wonder if you can reorient tv where the big chairs are so both tv and fireplace are addressed? Color, maybe you should decide on furniture first?

Hello Jen, I am so surprised that no one has mentioned vertical blinds to you? They are very much back in fashion and work beautifully in a room such as yours. They come in 3.5" veins, which mean they will fold back and tuck into each recess when fully open. They turn to let as much light in as you need and then close when you want full privacy. They will be fitted in the recess above the windows. You can either have one complete rail length or two so you have a separate section over the door. You can have what's know as a middle split, i.e: half goes left and right. Personally I would suggest one length that opens to the left, therefore leaving your door completely uncovered when open. The pulley system is very much like a roller blind and are safety fixed to the wall so children can not get caught in them. They come in a huge rang of colours and materials and better still they are very affordable. I am working with a number of new developments in Hertfordshire at the moment and these are what the clients are all asking for. www.visioninteriors.ie Looking at your curtains and curtain pole, in my opinion it is the pole that initially needs to be corrected - it is a nice steel pole,however the importance of a pole being fitted correctly makes a huge difference to the hanging and look of the curtains. the brackets at each end of the pole should be at least 8"/20cm away from each sides of the window, this allows the curtains to frame the window nicely while letting in as much light as possible. The brackets should be 2"/5cm away from the finial ( ball end in this case) at each end of the pole. The space between the bracket and the finial (end of the pole) has one curtain ring only and the rest of the curtain rings/hooks are the window side of the brackets so that the curtains can hang straight. Whether you buy new curtains or hold onto your existing ones check out the fitting of the pole and remedy it - you will be amazed at the difference this can make.

A15) @Dara Cooke: If you can't afford a quartz or granite worktop from day one then I would recommend using a laminate worktop as a temporary solution. If you don't put tiles up as a backsplash then replacing the worktops can be relatively easy in a couple of years.

Such a lovely cloakroom. I think a blind of any sort will be a bit over fussy for such a small window.

Thanks Sonia. I know what you're saying but I suppose I feel like I want a little something else on that wall as it feels just that bit too plain/unfinished to me. Do you think just a narrowish strip of fabric inside the reveal would look too much? Or forget that and add something else on that wall for a bit of interest?

It does look a very lovely cloakroom! If its just for finishing, you could get a small french net curtain pole, and make up a piece of fabric to hang on it. You can also make a 'fake blind' effect, by putting some velcro up, and attaching material to it. I would be tempted to keep the monochrome look though, and not go for anything too fussy, maybe just a simple grey to match.
