Thoughts on kitchen...

Hi,

My dilemma is this: we’ve just purchased a house and have a tight budget for our kitchen upgrade.

We would like to EITHER paint the cabinets (light grey) and go with a wood-like laminate worktop OR we could leave the cabinets as is and put in a quartz countertop (carerra marble effect) which we really like.

Thoughts??

This is a recently completed kitchen respray and change of countertop. You can see that both the re-spray and change of counter add to the new feel of the kitchen in their own way. If it is a case of one or the other, it is up to you to decide what you think will best suit your kitchen. I hope this helps!

It is fair comment on not so pretty tiles and unfortunately you can't do much with the floor here because it covers too large area. On a picture you can see only lounge area, which is actually part of the kitchen. Tiles cover floor in the kitchen, lounge area and dining room. Extra large rug wouldn't make it better. This project has two tough points: tight budget and timing.

Hi I'm planning a new kitchen as part of a refurb and need some advice on worktops. I have always had a laminate worktop in kitchens before and now have the chance to get a stone worktop which I have always thought would be the obvious choice given the opportunity. However, I've been told that they can be quite noisy with dishes etc, especially in a open plan which is what we will have. Also another person told me she wishes she'd gone with laminate because of you drop a dish on the quartz top it will surely break. ( I hadn't thought of this!) Anyone with experience of laminate and stone in an open plan space who can offer thoughts? Thanks in advance!
