Best products for smooth walls

Hi,
We have stripped paper from to bedrooms. Some walls just need a few holes filling while a couple have blown plaster and ideally need taking back and skimming/re plastering. We also have artex ceilings we'd prefer smooth.
However....finding it impossible to find a plasterer. Either can't afford their ridiculous quote or can't afford to wait 12 weeks for them to be available!
So....what's the best product these days for refilling, layering up and smoothing over larger holes and cracks in walls? Sadly will have to live with the awful artex ceilings. Sad times.

Hi Just wondering if you had a solution? We have similar situation. Having wallpaper stripped but uneven beneath. Have had both skim suggested and sheetrock and wondering which is better. Not keen to make the walls thicker

Sadly we had to go down the re plastering route. 2 medium sized bedrooms, both had 2 walls taken back to brick, reboarded and skimmed. Other 2 walls in each room just skimmed. Cielings in both pva coat then skimmed. Cost £1030.

Once again, carolins has taken the words right out of my mouth. I sometimes feel like a crusader for entertainment centers and lowering art! You have a dynamic room with so much potential. Your wall could look amazing with the armoire carolins has pictured above. Of course, lower your sconces so that they're a about 4" below the top of the armoire and about 7" from the sides. Your fireplace should be your focal point with your wall being strong but not competing. Rooms get personality from smaller accents but you have too many little things that take away from the great colored pillows and the picture. Be careful not to hang things in straight lines--top of pictures should never line up with tops of doors or curtain rods. I wish we could see your fireplace in another photo. Chairs should form conversation groups with the couch like Carolyn has outlined. I like your chandelier but you might think about lowering it or moving it above a dining table--it looks rather lost way up there.

You can stay neutral but use different textures in the tiles. Glass mixed with ceramic or marble is good. I would put tile on the entire backsplash and make a great accent piece over the range. Change up the patterns also. It will add interest without adding too much color. If you want to be bolder, chose one or two colors in the tiles that you can live with or that you have in the rest of the house. That will pull your color scheme into the kitchen and make a cohesive look as you go throughout the house.

Hi lots of different options and ideas going on. I had a similar wall and understand how mean it can be to little ones. I bought and put up the expanding wood trellis. This instantly covered the area at a very reasonable price. I then planted quick growing climbing plants. I'm not a great gardener so I cant remember what i had but ask at the garden centre they will advise you. But at least you have a barrier in place to minimize accidents.

They provided the pva stuff but my husband did the labour for that prep work. It's been hard but we finally got the first coat of plaster paint on last week and new windows going in today so hope to get painting completed and carpet fitted before end of month.
