Advise on lighting for a loft conversion

Hi all, renovating a large 1950’s house and making the loft space a master bedroom, en-suite with large dormer window at the back of the property so it will be south facing.
I love plenty of bright light to dress and do hair and make up but also want the subtle cosy feel if watching TV etc
My thoughts had been inset ceiling LEDs dotted about ( obviously not above the bed) which could be dimmable?? Not sure if you can get this??
Hubby’s 6.2 so didn’t want him dodging around a pendant light.
Any help appreciated
Amanda

I'd go for dimmable downlights (yes you can get dimmable ones, your electrician will advise), but also include lamps for when you want cosiness (bedside ones and perhaps elsewhere too), plus potentially a pendant of some sort (again dimmable) over the bed if there's definitely one location for it. You could include a nice bright light over a dressing table for make up (though take care you don't create lots of shadows). You could also have some subtle lighting via LED strips as mentioned - eg if you have some bookshelves you can light the shelving, or you could have them inside wardrobes etc to help make everything easy to find when you're dressing. When you're creating a room from scratch it's an ideal opportunity to design something that really works.

Some LED strips are dimmable, usually the fancier RGB colour changing ones which could add a...um...nice specialist feature for use in bedroom ;)

Hi Amanda - I'm in the process of finishing off our recent loft extension in a 1930s semi. For lighting we've gone with four dimmable spots in the ceiling, a wall mounted picture light and two reading lights (dimmable) on either side of the bed. There's a table lamp as well. So far (only been up here for a couple of nights) these seems to be a good mix of bright enough for tasks e.g. measuring and fitting g curtain track and hanging curtains (which need taking up! Hence massive bunches of material in pics) but also cosy enough for winding down. In the bathroom we have four non dimmable spots (overkill really - it's a small space) and a light over the cabinet. I'll see if I can attach some pics. Hope this is helpful, good luck!
