Help with hallway
Hello I want to decorate this hallway. please can anyone help me decide. I was thinking of a neutral colour above dado rail and either a pale blue or green under the rail. Any ideas? Is it better to have neutral above dado rail or the other way around?

Comments (3)Empty out the furniture and fixtures there, including the lamp and ceiling fixture.Use a storage bench instead for a place to sit and remove shoes. Shoes or backpacks can be dropped inside it. You can get much better lighting from a fixture that has lights to wash the ceiling and to light the floor. What is under your stairs? Do you have room to install some storage there? Pull out stair drawers might work for shoes, and you might add some pull outs under the stairs if they are suited for it. A foyer should serve to introduce you, your style and the decor to be expected in the adjoining rooms. I would key furnishings and paint to what is going on in the rooms left and right of the foyer. Everything I see hanging on the walls is hung too high. The general rule is that the center point of a single piece or a grouping should be 5' above the floor. If the first piece at the bottom of the stairwell is hung at that level, you can use painter's tape to tape the center line all the way up the stairs and arrange pictures above and below the line, with a few centered right on it for a more pleasant arrangement. Comments (3)It's impossible to tell from a photograph. I think it's fine. I do recommend 3 things - View the paint outside, or at least in natural light - View the color next to other taupe paint sample squares... to make sure there's no pink or green cast. - Make sure it is fine with adjacent rooms - for "flow". 2 years agoYou have a beautiful hall and I think a more traditional scheme would look lovely, so pale colour above dado and something a bit bolder below. I think any of the Farrow & Ball colours would suit the hall, colours like Oval Room Blue (more a green-blue), Hague Blue, Inchyra Blue or Pigeon. I recently used Oval Room Blue in my kitchen and it is a lovely colour. I’ve also used Pigeon in my tiny stairs and it’s pretty dark as has little natural light, but I love the drama! In a bright room it will be a lot lighter. I also think yellow would look fab, something like India Yellow. Pictures below of Oval Room and Pigeon.

2 years agoWall panelling doesn't have to cost a fortune, I used picture framing glued to the plasterwork from B&Q to create this effect, looks miles better than before. Upper painted in Dulex Shic Shadow and lower in Dulux Pure Brilliant White satin.
