Living room paint colour help!

Hi, I need some help with paint colours for my living room - shall I go bold or go neutral?!
It’s a double aspect East & West room with floor to ceiling windows on both E&W walls.
This is proving challenging with colour. It’s currently painted white. I have painted F&B Cornforth White on the alcoves on either side of the chimney breast but it looks lilac on one alcove & grey/mushroom on other alcove. I have been asked if I’ve painted it 2 different colours!!
Also my kitchen is dark blue/grey/white & the front room is off this room (Dulux Rock Salt appeared lilac in this room so it’s now Dulux white!).
I want to keep a ‘flow’ from the kitchen so I have steered away from greens (clashing?), & dark blue as I feel this would be too much.
Colours I have considered are F&B downpipe & Lick neutrals range. Also im thinking of painting alcoves & built-in units one colour & rest of room another.
Pink carpet being replaced with beige/neutral carpet & new white skirting board will be fitted.
Any opinions gratefully received!!

Can you draw a sketch of the whole kitchen/living room space. Or take a photo of living room standing in kitchen just to see how it all flows. Pics of the windows too

Hi Ellie, I’ve attached some extra photos showing the outside of the house & architect drawings of the ground floor. The kitchen was installed earlier this year after we knocked 2 walls down that separated the old kitchen, dining room & hallway that lead from the front door to the front room. Excuse the front room mess, we are in the middle of having cabinets & shelves built into both alcoves!

We just painted a color called "Latte" over the dark red walls in our place and we keep thinking that someone left the light on! It adds that much light to the place as the red was just sucking out any light in the place. Find a color you like more for that wall and repaint...and/or maybe add a ceramic tile backsplash? It will make it feel brighter in there immediately as you will get a lot of light reflection. I love the idea of sage green with your cabinets.

I must admit the cashew looks pretty white on an iPad! I would maybe try a grey with a hint of mauve (you know the colour that they quite often use for french chairs etc). I've looked at the following from zoffany: fig grey, dusk and victorian purple. They may be too much purple so you could buy a grey and mix your own with a mauve tester pot

New living room opened up.. And I am completely lost with decorating.. Painting colours really everything I get overwhelmed when I try make a start.. We have moved into it but consists of 3seater brown leather couch and double seater and single seater none matching.. We have carpet on the floor until pipes are ran under floor for radiators eventually it will be wood or laminate flooring.. Huge mat there.. Curtains that I am sick of.. No photos on wall as unsure about sizes and colours of photo frames and positioning.. It's a very big room high ceilings.. Red brick fireplace.. Need loads of advise to have a nice relaxing homely feel.. Family 5kids 2adults

Hello,

I would definitely encourage you to go for the Lick Kelly Hoppen range, timeless neutrals, to soften the blue and continue the flow I would recommend Beige 04, especially with the double aspect sunlight.

Thank you Copper Dust, that was the colour I was really drawn to in the KH range, it looks lovely & warm. All soft/light greys seem to give off a lilac tone in this house & feel cold which is not what I’m looking for! ☺️

Have you seen the Cox and Cox paint range? They have some really lovely neutrals, and the paint is made by Mylands, so is really high quality. Depending on timing, you can usually find a 20 or 25% discount code too! I think the colours Sisal, Flaxen or Lansdowne are worth a look. https://www.coxandcox.co.uk/paint/

Also - my eyes aren’t brilliant - but is that a wooden coving? I’d be tempted to paint it to reduce the contrast between the walls and the wood.

Thanks Sarah. Hadn’t thought of looking at cox & cox for paint. I’ve ordered some samples, so thank you! Yes that is wooden coving…all being removed tomorrow with new white skirting board going in. The yellow wood in this house is crazy!! Would you suggest painting the room one colour or paint the wall with built in units & chimney breast in a different colour to other 3 walls?

I honestly both options can look nice! I’d perhaps start with one colour, and then if you think it needs it, you could introduce a second colour…
