Where should the bedroom entrance door be for optimum room layout?
Really need help with this room layout and best place to put the bedroom entrance door. I want to be able to put a large wardrobe for storage but it will be in front of the window and block the light unless we move the door to the other end and move the bed on opposite wall?

2 years agoThis is the upstairs plans. I think the door needs to be all the way to the right to utilise the space but i don't know if it would look odd/unbalanced having 2 doors next the each other in the hallway and no doors in the rest of the hallway....

Comments (9)HI -- gross635 -- Your right to some degree but you can't move the main floor bath to the other side because then that interfers with the floor plan on the second floor. Would not work . I would have loved to turn the whole plan around but it won't work in this case. Added note to what I posted before is to get rid of anywalls you don't need and also not every room has to have a door. Like the one on the lounge and the one at the end of the hall. I would open the lounge up by not having the walls on the entrance hall . As for a closet , there is space in front of the set back powder room for some coat hooks etc. I also question the fact of , if the lounge is really needed. Everything could have been shifted to the front and the kitchen set back , then that would have made a larger dining/familyroom area . But that would have ruined the resale value . So I think moving the bathrooms was the lest and best for this plan. One question I have , is this an English plan ?, because the English love putting doors on every room ?And usually the doors swing the wrong way....See MoreKitchen - Dining Room Design
Comments (1)I would definitely go for a larger kitchen therefore a swap. Also if structure allows to remove this little bit of unnecessary wall by current kitchen entrance would make the space more open.( I think in the other plan I see it is happening?) the outside door swap for a window is a very good idea in my mind....See MoreKitchen layout/planning
Comments (4)I can perfectly understand that you don't want an additional door off the hall, and do you really want to approach the utility with washing etc, through a hall anyway? I just wonder why you want to make the door disappear, when its not on a wall with units? If it were, it might be easy to paint it/finish it similar to cabinets, but in the middle of the wall it will stand out anyway, whatever you do. To my mind, it might be better to just put an ordinary door in there, similar to other interior ones or glass paneled if you wan the light. If you are going to do it out with similar units to kitchen, it will flow in any case, if you can see them. Several friends have done this lately and it looks fine and the continuity through the glass paneled door just seems to make the kitchen appear even larger and lighter....See MoreFeedback on granny flat layout
Comments (3)I think you could improve the flow by moving the bathroom where the office is and extend to where the wardrobe is. Move the kitchen to where the bathroom is abs sitting area to where the kitchen is. Maybe tweak the bedroom to make larger to fit wardrobe. Have desk in open plan area....See More- PRO

2 years agolast modified: 2 years agoI'd switch around bathroom and bed position. It'd make the bathroom windowless but maybe you include a high window and steel some natural light from the main bedroom. Otherwise, Jonathan's plan is pretty solid for a spacious master suite.
