Best way to treat (possibly) infested secondhand books?

Don’t know if this topic this even qualifies to be in Houzz but here goes...

I want to avoid a possible infestation in my house. I just bought a whole series of encyclopaedia from a secondhand book store. Their overall quality is great but upon arriving home I noticed one book literally contained something that resembled to be two small white larva close to it’s spine. I’m worried these are book worms or book lice. I’ve also heard these can spread quickly to other books on the shelf.

I’ve set the books aside for now but any tips on how to deal with possibly infested books? What should I do? So far I’ve read that freezing or heating books can be a possible solution. Freezing isn’t a great option for me as these books are HUGE and I don’t have enough space for all of them in my freezer (I can freeze maybe two at a time but that would be tedious). Would heating them in the oven work? The books are leather bound btw, could heat possibly damage them?

Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I think you need a pest controller, if you wish to keep the books. There’s no way I’d put those infested books in my freezer. Of course it depends on the price you paid for them.

Contact a book restorer or book binder. I think you need a specialist who will prioritise the books, these people for example may be worth emailing.
