Cleaning black taps

Any tips for cleaning black taps? We live in a hard water area and soapy water isn't going to cut it long term I don't think. My hot water kitchen tap is pictured and as you can see has a ring of limescale on it.

Have you tried Viakal? One of the best limescale cleaners I’ve ever tried.

I haven't, do you think it would be OK to use on black? I know you have to be careful with what you use on them.

The only problem is you are going for a traditional fireplace and granite is a fairly modern look you could go for a lighter shade , remember its your house if you like the look stick to it. I would go into some fireplace shops and see what they look like, i'am sure whatever you put down will look lovely.

Hello Houzz Ireland, We are currently renovating a 1960's build - so as you know, there is a lot of decisions to be made!! So it would be nice to get some gems of advice from the experts to help us through this daunting task. Areas where we would really like some inspiration for - small bathroom downstairs. I would really like to do something fun with this room and although small, I think it could work really well with some funky wallpaper or possibly tiles?! I'm just not sure what to do with it. Also - pulling a whole house together?! Where do we start? We have the bigger pieces of furniture but how do I know what nest of tables goes best with a suite? Or what accessories will bring a room together? I'm due a second baby in 2 weeks time so any help at this stage would be so amazing - to guide me on the right interior design path for our new house. Black is a notoriously hard colour to keep clean, especially in a kitchen area. I would suggest using a laminate, especially if you are going for a slab door. There are a variety of effects that may be suitable. It has the best advantages of being easy to clean and durable, avoid gloss colours if you are worried about scratch marks. Paint on the other hand will give a different effect, it depends on what you are trying to achieve. However paint will require maintenance, darker colours more regularly.

Hi, I am having trouble deciding what colour to paint my new home, I would like to keep the cottage / farm feel. I have just started cleaning the roof which turned out to be a red asbestos slate of which im thinking of painting black or slate grey. The window frames are black but i dont really want to go or the standard black reveals/ white house. All ideas welcome. See pictures below: Thanks Martin

As you say having black does sometimes cause a problem. I use a fresh lemon on mine and it works well but mine are stainless steel and I wouldn’t recommend it on black. Lemons are really acidic and very good for cleaning certain products.

I would just try some of the usual household cleaners.

A water softener should help a lot (we have one, but don’t have black taps).

Although saying that, assuming you have an “unsoftened” supply for drinking, maybe not.

I found this on a manufacturers website. I wonder if it is best to try Viakal at the back of the tap. If it’s okay then use it where needed.
