Help with Bedroom colour scheme

Do you think a lighter colour scheme would appeal more to holiday renters? I don’t know where you are based but if its coastal, then some nice blues and off whites. I know it’s a bit of a cliche but most of the holiday let’s I've stayed in have a fresh coastal look.

We are near the coast but not a coastal town as such.
The rest of the house is mostly darks and mix of industrial with classic elements and fairly masculine, ha ha.

It's all been a quick change so I don't have time to repaint it all at the moment (plus all the doors etc are matching paint so they would look odd now 😬

Was hoping to add more colourful elements on the bed and perhaps in the rugs but everyone seems to like the room so I don't want to change too much

I would also definitely go white if the windows are on the green wall. Will be much more natural to tie the accent wall with the stark wht contrasting walls. Always a very chic contemporary look. Also very relaxing as opposed to the treatments standing out when you already have your standout feature- the green accent wall. Great white bed you ordered! Then I love all the blue/green/ silver accent advice. I did a similar room in purples/greys/ whites and we used great posted prints of florals with a little oriental flair in nice big mats w frames. You could do florals or nice big botanicals in greens would be very fresh and modern!! White or silver frames or maybe even the shock of black would be cool.

Thanks for that. Two of the spots are out at the moment so due to replace! I'll look at that paint suggestion, walks are white at moment but that paint you mentioned seems like it could be brighter. If I were to change or recover bed - any suggestions? Lockers are going to so also open to suggestions! Thanks again - feeling like I should have kept our old colour scheme but I really loved this paper!!

Thank you guys. I went to the carpet showroom today and the guy there was not very helpful. Just threw a few books at me. So I am none the wiser really. But there would not be as much selection here in Ireland as what you would have in the states. I won't give up though, I saw a few ones with speckles on it and they were nice but I think I will hold out for the pattern ones if I see them. Maybe what I want is not out there..... Wont see any dirt, only have to Hoover once a week, no foot marks and light in color ??

It you are going to keep all of the dark walls etc, then I would be adding as much wood and white as possible, a classic combination. Lots of wicker, oak, sisal etc. I'm not so convinced that the bright colours work with the black. I'm also in Sonia's camp (glad she said it first), for a holiday let, paint it lighter.

The room is all mismatched, style wise, as you've noted! If you're planning to rent it, & be gone for a long period, do you really need to change the bed?
If you are set on the industrial look, that type of bed works actually. So, maybe if it has to be bigger, just get the same style. The floor works, the wardrobe works, & the chosen lockers would too. The chandelier doesn't, so swap it for a cheap alternative. And some bedside lamps.
If the bed is bigger, you'll need bigger bedlinen too, but if you're renting, they'll have their own. So, you only need a cover for staging the room for renters. Just buy a suitable duvet cover - the pretty floral doesn't work for industrial. Try something with mustard / yellow to add life to the grey. A throw & a couple of cushions, along with the bedside lamps, will help it to look more cosy.

A long horizontal piece of art over the bed would make that wall less grim too. Or, you could try putting wallpaper behind & / or beside the bed - there are loads of types. Pick a stick on one that you can remove later. A white brick wall type of paper would work for industrial look, but be a lighter colour. Look at Wallpaper Direct for ideas.

If no walls being touched, I know you've not much time, but could you even paint the ceiling white over the dressing table area? The room will look bigger and brighter. Right now, it seems to shrink to the size of the white ceiling area.

However, the industrial loft look isn't universally appealing...! I agree that a renter might prefer a lighter, airier, relaxing fresh space. Try a linen type of headboard, not velvet. Velvet means plush etc, & your grey floorboards don't really complement that look. Linen can be crisp & clean & smart. If you're not moving from grey, pick a complementary colour - light grey, or a green - that you can match lighter bedlinen to.
Or, again, a lovely wallpaper to tie in your grey banisters with new headboard colour.
And paint the wardrobes to blend with the walls so they disappear.
Pick lighter coloured lockers - a white table with drawer maybe. Or a floating shelf with drawer.

Morning all!
Thanks for the feedback.

We do have a South facing window so it gets a good amount of light in to carry off the dark. We also have 2 other bedrooms as well to redo and only have a few weeks to do it as we are off travelling 😱 so definately can't paint this time around. Might be able to redo some area in autumn but have to work with this for now. Will have a look at the ceiling above the dressing table area though. Painting over grey will be a chore 🤣

It will be Airbnb holiday let type thing rather than long term letting. Renting the whole house so I don't think people will stay in the room a huge amount to be honest and everyone who goes up there says how lovely it is.

Yes I'm thinking more linen headboard - perhaps lighter grey with some colour accents. Also thought about a navy??

So if I got rid of the mirror, dressing table and chandelier and used softer or a pop of colour with the greys and have natural woods in there - would that work?

Maybe a soft shell pink if I go all greys with white and wood

Or grey with a navy and natural woods?

We have an Airbnb host coming over today to have a look and so I will get her feedback as well.

Tani- I think you could quite easily have a lovely room that will photograph well with just a few key changes. The simplest and most dramatic will be to change the bed linens and add some plush pillows to form a backrest. I’ve posted a Houzz picture below with an iron bed, white duvet cover, and grey toned accessories. You could easily recreate this look with Dunelm bedding and cushions.

Then, I’d change the chandelier and table lights. Dunelm’s Marsden chandelier has a trendy industrial look and there are matching plug in wall lights. The metal brackets look a bit cheap, so I would swap them for ones made of wood.

I’d remove the bedside wall art and probably add a mirror or two. However, the art would probably work well on the stairwell wall..

I’d keep the dressing table, but definitely replace the stool. I’d look for something that pulls in the pale wood colours, like this one from Cult.

As for colour, I’d simply add some green plants (even artificial if need be.). Choose pots that stick to the grey and wood colour scheme.

Ps meant to say that I would have loved to have added some wallpaper - but all the walls are curved 🙈 It's a nightmare, lol.

In fact I can't paint the dressing area ceiling white because it's not a separate section ie it joins onto the rest of the walls so I can't separate it.

The only area I could add paper to is the dressing table area side walls and under the window. Or paint in a different colour.

Really, since it's an airbnb for the year, and if it's continually rented to different groups, you might have had 30 groups in there by the time you come back. You will want to spend money on it then, to change it back to a home. So, don't spend too much money! Just go for basic stuff, like white bedlinen in polyester 50/50 blend. No need to pay for 100% cotton as you're unlikely to every use it for yourself! And buy soft throws and scatter cushions in accent colours. Try IKEA for all of those. Not trying to be negative here, but if you've ever rented a house, you might know that people walk off with portable things that they like! So, nothing fancy or expensive.

Since you're changing the bed anyway, go for the linen headboard so you can properly change the room up in the Autumn when you're back. I wouldn't go for navy though, against the dark grey. Go for a lighter grey, or even oatmeal, that you can work with next time. Or - a colour like yellow, teal, or grassy green.

Forget painting anything else. It'll all need a refresh when you come back.

Yes I have to paint regularly even just with us two living it as its amazing how quickly things get dirty or marked! Lol!

Off to a bed place now so will try and find a light grey linen one which is more versatile
