Shelf gap help?

Hello, had this shelf cut to fit the space that holds our toilet tank. In my opinion (and I'm by no means an expert so please correct me if I'm wrong!) it's been cut too small, particularly around the corner box on the wall, hence the fairly large gaps.
The walls are wonky so I wasn't expecting a perfect fit but I figured the gaps wouldn't be quite so big. Is there anything that can be done to improve it? Bearing in mind we may in the future need to remove it if there's a plumbing issue so perhaps the best course of action is to ignore it and hide the gaps with plants etc?
Or am I being unreasonable and it looks ok? Thanks for reading.
