Awkward bathroom layout advice.

Hi there, we are renovating our bathroom and I'm struggling to get the layout right. We currently have a tall cupboard in the corner and I'd really like to put the toilet there but our plumber has said this won't be possible - a sink/vanity would be doable, but I'm not sure if this would feel right. The only problem we have with the current layout is that there isn't enough space to hang towels (there is a towel radiator under the window currently, but it doesn't give enough space) I'd like a tall towel rail if possible, but I can't work out where it could go!

Any suggestions much appreciated.

Some people put the loo under the window. If you did that you’d have space next to the vanity unit for a tall towel rail. That’s really the best place for it to save drips on the floor walking around the bathroom.

Thanks! Yes, that's one thing I have been considering. The only thing is that the shower is actually at the other end than this diagram shows (i'll try to edit it!) so I'm concerned that moving the toilet under the window would be awkward for getting in and out the shower.

East Kent Eco - again thank you for your input. As a pro I wonder if you could offer your thoughts on a couple of scenarios 1 - Leave bath where it is - what would be involved in moving the shower 4-6 inches to the centre of the bath? I did consider the P shaped bath and will consider your suggestion for a shorter bath to allow room for the toilet, but I currently had to put in a door stop to protect the shower door from the entrance door handle and I would be concerned about a rounded door being even closer. If I left the bath where it is I have a couple of options, turning the toilet and cistern 90 degrees to the adjoining wall - see above for the considerations there, or I have also considered switching the toilet and sink. I would put the sink facing the wall where the cistern currently is have a large-ish vanity from the base of the bath to the wall, and the if the toilet was where the sink is it would not interfere with the doors for the hot press as the seat would be considerably lower than the sink is currently thus giving me the better access I want. In this scenario the main issue for me would be the toilet would be facing the entrance door, a bit unsightly but if it gave me the space I want I think I could live with the compromise. 2 - A bit more involved, but I have also considered moving the bath sideways along the short length of the room, shower end over the space where the cistern is currently and moving the sink and toilet to the space where the bath is currently. I think this would allow me room for a vanity and maybe also a tall storage cupboard for the towels and linens currently in the hot press. The obvious concern with this is the shower spray in the direction of the hot press, if I got the storage I needed elsewhere in the bathroom I wouldn't be concerned about those getting wet, but would want to ensure I don't end up with a leak over the stairs. Access would also be an issue if repairs were required for the shower pump or the hot water system. You would have to step into the bath to gain access. Is there a solution to waterproof the cupboard?

If I'm being honest, I'm really not sure on this layout. You have services on both sides of the extension, which even with my limited knowledge of building is expense that you could avoid. Do you need a laundry and a utility, or could you combine them.? Also I hate the idea of a toilet off the kitchen. The garage also looks small. Could you take out the door on the garage and make that the bathroom off your corridor, and make the corridor your utility. Then you have all the space free where the new bathroom and utility are. If you want more space for the utility and bathroom I would suggest bringing that wall in (make kitchen and dining narrower) and that would have the advantage of making your study wider. One other point is that leaving the study there with a window to the side will make the kitchen very dark.

A few things I would change from experience...instead of a single and double door I would spend the extra money and put in a bifold corner section...would open up the space so much more. as for the kitchen...completely flip your design...put your breakfast bar closer to the window...make it large and multipurpose with the hob in it and then put your main band of cabinets either left, right or behind? We have recently restructured our existing cabinets to this layout and put in new countertops and it works far better than before!

Can the 46cm gap/wall between bath and cupboard be removed? If so, move the bath up into that corner and then put the sink in the bottom right corner at the foot of the bath. Keep short heated towel rail below window and add another short one on the wall beside sink (at end of bath) - or add tall towel rail where sink is currently.
