TV above fireplace
Curious to know peoples ideas on TV above fireplace. I’ve done this, and it’s been a labour of internal argumentative dialogue on how high the TV should be. I got it as low as it could go whilst keeping the character of the room, and actually think it makes more sense to be higher, as I naturally lie down/recline when watching TV for long periods. Also, what colour should I paint this?

2 years agoThis really divides people. If you are an obsessive aesthete, someone who loves to collect and display art etc, then nothing will ever persuade you to put a TV above a fireplace, somewhere that would normally have a mirror or painting etc. I also thought that TV's should be at eye level so above a fireplace seems a little odd to me. When the TV is off, you have a huge black shiny rectangle on the wall, it is what it is. Paint can be used to darken the wall, but it's only going to slightly disguise it, not eliminate it, but perhaps worth doing anyway. In terms of what colour, some more pictures of the room in natural light would be a good idea.

Would suggest you get built in book shelvers on both sides of fireplace, lift tv into a slot it fits perfectly into (make sure you have power on both sides). Then it will disappear more rather than fight with fireplace as focal point. I am always disappointed with mirrors over fireplaces, they become dark, are to high to reflect much. Plus then you have three rectangles fighting for center stage. I'd say very colorful artwork instead. Wonder if you can reorient tv where the big chairs are so both tv and fireplace are addressed? Comments (3)I think you should paint the walls grey. Grey and red are fabulous together. If you need to because the room is small, put a darker grey on the wall where the fireplace is and a softer one everywhere else. Use the cream color of the fireplace in your throw pillows, rug, art etc as a accent color. Seems the room is small so the TV above the fireplace might be a good choice. The right chandelier and sconces will improve lighting. Add some table lamps. Chrome will make the lighting pop. Comments (28)Snan, The bottom oval one in Eskandari's photos would also work in your room (or something like that). The oval shape visually gives height to the room which would work for you as well. I know that shopping around can sometimes be exhausting, but if you were up for the search that would be another option if you're not sure about the round one you have already. There is an electric fireplace integrated into the middle of the center wall and two alcoves on either side. I don't want to mount the TV above the fireplace as it will be too high so am wondering what is the best room layout and TV position. There is also a bay window at the front.
