Open plan paint colour support
Hello! We’ve just knocked our dining room-living room and kitchen wall down to make it an open plan L shape. And now we can’t decide on the paint colour for walls. The front is south facing and the back is north. So it’s a mix on light available in our London 1930s home. We’re looking for a modern boho skandi vibe. So it’s modern but cosy. We’ve put F&B Wimborne White on the bedroom walls and thought that was our winner for downstairs too but it’s too yellow for us. Is Strong White from F&B going to be too cold for our downstairs living area? Especially as we have warm natural oak wooden flooring. Would LOVE some advice for our paint choices. I’m going round in circles right now :) I’ve attached a photo of the walls and wood that I think I have in mind.

Colour Scheme for new home
Comments (1)Hi. I would try and go for a cohesive look throughout the house so it flows. Maybe choose a few colours for the walls that work together which could be different shades of grey for example (no pun intended!) or another neutral colour. Have a look at farrow and ball for inspiration as they make suggestions for colour matches. Paint all your ceilings and woodwork throughout in the same colour. Then pick accent colours for each room. Again these could be colours that work together. Have a look at a colour wheel to see what colours work together. As your living area is open plan you definitely need the colours to work together. If you chose a grey for example you could have an accent wall in a darker shade. I hope that helps. Comments (4)Hi I notice your blind and lamp are Laura Ashley Pelham. Laura Ashley does a duck egg white, pale duck egg and duck egg paint colours. Maybe you could have the duck egg white as the predominant colour and use in both rooms but also use the pale duck egg or duck egg in the lounge, or add some wallpaper. Not sure grey walls would work with the kitchen units. Perhaps more of a taupe/warm grey would work in both spaces though....See MoreInjecting life into open plan
Comments (9)I hadn't spotted it was mahogany tbh when I first looked! I probably wouldn't go for a light wood with the mahogany, perhaps something medium in tone rather than mahogany just to balance out with the rest of the room? You could of course go for a different material for the console and add wood for accessories. For the bookcases I might actually paint them in the ŵall colour or the White otherwise they might overpower that area and the fire? Another option is to paint the actual fire surround. If you decided on blue for an accent colour for example you could paint it an Inky blue. It's quite hard to say without knowing what/if you'll bring colour to the rest of the room as you could end up with a living area dark in tone and everything else very light. The bookcases will also visually widen the living space so you may find you also need side tables for the sofa to balance it (or a chair angled in front of the bookcase if it fits) but perhaps see how it looks first before making any decisions! I've painted my living room F&B Pigeon and railings on the skirting board to match the railings on the island in the kitchen. 2 years agoI painted a bookcase in Slaked Lime. It sits in a North-East facing room and it looks warm but not too yellow. Lovely shade
