Sliding door/ divider ideas
Comments (29)With a sliding door, you can have each side different to match the style of the room it faces. Here are some ideas that, believe it or not, are done with sharpies on flat surfaces. I can envision a "fireplace" on the lounge side. On the dining room side, you could do the "double door" look, by putting half on the door, and half on the wall next to the door. So when the door is closed, it looks like a pair of doors, but when the door is slid open it looks like only one door (but it's the wall!) I added the 3rd picture just because I think it's so cool. I believe the only "real" thing in the room is the glass table/desk, and the filing cabinet....See MoreNeed help with accessible kitchen
Comments (8)My advice is to visit an independent kitchen showroom. Oftentimes they have access to more standard priced options than the big kitchen firms. Reduced height cabinets can be set at almost any height by wall hanging them, or changing the plinth height or having bespoke feet. Since standing is a challenge I presume you will also need to talk to them about pull out units (all of my crockery is in drawers which is much easier to access) you can also put fridges, ovens etc at any height making them easier to access. You might also look at different oven doors, some slide underneath or open to the side making access to the oven easier. You can get dishwashers the size of a single oven which might be easier to load and of course can be set at any height. If your overall strength is compromised you might choose bigger handles to open cabinets. If you want over counter cabinets you might choose to have reduced depth base cabinets to improve access to the cabinets above. You can get extractors that work with a remote control which helps future proof your kitchen if at a later date you find yourself sitting more or unable to stand....See MoreHouzz Live Chat - Designing a Dream Kitchen, 1 pm, 15 July 2016
Comments (80)A15) @Dara Cooke: If you can't afford a quartz or granite worktop from day one then I would recommend using a laminate worktop as a temporary solution. If you don't put tiles up as a backsplash then replacing the worktops can be relatively easy in a couple of years....See MoreDo I need a warming drawer with 2 full size ovens?
Comments (0)Most definitely a first world problem but trying to decide can I justify the outlay of a warming drawer when I’m installing a full size steam oven and a full size pyrolytic oven (both neff slide and hide). First concern is that the ovens have to be stacked due to kitchen design so I wonder would warming drawer look silly and secondly I wonder do I need one at all with 2 full size ovens that I think have plate warming and keep warm functions (one definitely does). If any of you have warming drawers with 2 full size ovens I’d be grateful for your thoughts....See MoreLorraine Knight
