Help! Laying flooring with underfloor heating

We have nearly finished building a new house which has wet system underfloor heating all through the downstairs.

The screed has been down for 8/9 months and is sufficiently dry.

We have the dpm underlay.

However, the underfloor heating isn't connected and working yet.

Is it a bad idea to start laying the laminate flooring before the underfloor heating is working and the screed is at its working temperatures. (we've already started laying it and I'm now worrying!)

I cant imagine the installer has put the system in without testing it?

it's been pressure tested, but only just connected water to the site so not actually heated etc

Window shopping and lots of online browsing.! .haven't purchased anything yet!. Just getting house back in order after painting! I have put back the red/winey curtains that I previously had up...convinces me more to go with a neutral colour. The walls are rich Taupe but with a slight grey hue off them so I think the bottom left above actually might work. I have bedding very similar so I took them out and held up and think it would look very nice. Purple isn't a theme in my house (although I do have one bedroom painted purple/lilac) My sitting room is white red black and silver and living/kitchen room is tan and red. I want a rug that wont show up the dirt that much...I live in the country side and have lots of dirty feet coming in so I cant go for any rug that is too light in colour

In a new passive house, tiles or wooden flooring in open plan area.

If you are doing in-floor heating (hydronic heating) I would go with tile. If you are not, go with wood. That's from the energy and comfort perspective. It's OK to look at the two options and choose the one that's most attractive. Don't feel like you need to optimize for energy with every decision. Also, both flooring materials are reflective acoustically. Plan your other surfaces accordingly, or you'll drive yourself batty with echoes.

Wood Essence Amber is a great product, comes in just few sizes but also in a non slip tile. The tiles in general could be lay on floor boards, not directly. I would lay first a 9-10 mm plywood otherwise the existing boards might move too much creating cracks in the grout, also use flexible tile adhesive specific for wood, I think MAPEI has the best tile adhesive, but that is because I am Italian, sorry. I know KERAKOLL is getting more and more popular as DUNLOP. Best advise ever, do not go for plywood less than 9mm, please! ( I have been convinced by a client, I will never do it again its not worth it ) You might find some fibre cement boards to use specific for this porpoises, there are quite few types around you just need to ask your closest building merchant.

When can floor be laid?

We have just had 100mm of screed poured in our new build. Can anyone tell me how long we should expect to wait before it is ready for flooring? We will be tiling our hallway, utility and bathroom. We will lay laminate wood in the other communal areas and carpet in the bedroom. We have underfloor heating too but it will not be connected to electricity for 5 weeks. thanks!

I don't see this being a problem. If you do turn it on after the floor has been layed, do it slowly. 2 degrees per day. But like the previous comment, I'd advise testing it beforehand, again just going up by 2 degrees per day.

Hi Flindt, I agree with advise given above. Ask your contractor to test it, you don't want to be finding out problems after your top floor has been fitted. And then gradual turning on just like Inner Space flooring suggested. You could always check with your UFH supplier what is the best way to proceed.

I hope your laminate floor is suitable to go on top of UFH. I would also check with the supplier of floor what is the maximum temperature they recommend.
