Help choosing the right design for external facelift
We have 1960's House and looking to improve the exterior of the house. We have build few 3d models and are looking to get some ideas on the proposed models and if there is any other ideas or color schemes we can use to improve the exterior of house.
Current Picture of the house
Model 1 - Build porch , change Soffit/Facia/Guttering/bargeboard in black color , Replace concrete hanging tiles with clay hanging tiles , Windows / Garage Doors in Anthracite grey, Front door in dark Blue.
Model 2 - Build porch , change Soffit/Facia/Guttering/bargeboard in black color , Replace concrete hanging tiles with Brick slips , Windows / Garage Doors in Anthracite grey, Front door in dark Blue.

Just wonder , which one looks best and also if can make any other changes ( or change color scheme ) to make it look better.

3 years agoI don’t think your plans are the improvement you were hoping for and only pull this house from the 70s into the 90s- they make a distinctive house look anonymous by making interesting windows look too uniform. I’m also not keen on the pitched roof on the porch- I think a flat roof can look far more stylish especially with the modern roofing options now.
If you are prepared to go to the expense of face lifting this house I think you should either embrace the original architecture or choose a different but definitely distinctive look (either elegant, or contemporary or cottage).

Comments (4)I really think it's the plants that are supposed to be the center of attraction so I have a hard time thinking of anything better than painting the wall gray and the planters charcoal. However, trying to keep an open mind I did locate the photo above with yellow planters, which would be pretty against a gray wall. But looking at your very lovely blue door, I could see repeating that very same color on the planters and leaving the wall gray. It's always a good thing to repeat an existing color when it looks as great as that one does. Comments (2)Jalna99--Do you mean that there is no patio outside the front door? Or do you mean that you would like to pull the exterior door forward, under the existing porch roof enough to facilitate movement between rooms more easily? Both actions will require drawings and permits, I have little doubt, The second opton is much more substantial, because you would be creating new habitable space to what is now the exterior side of the structure. I suggest looking through the Houzz resources, and choosing a good bloke with the proper training in design that can steer you through the design and permit process to the extent that it will serve your immediate needs. Comments (25)Hi lots of different options and ideas going on. I had a similar wall and understand how mean it can be to little ones. I bought and put up the expanding wood trellis. This instantly covered the area at a very reasonable price. I then planted quick growing climbing plants. I'm not a great gardener so I cant remember what i had but ask at the garden centre they will advise you. So it would be nice to get some gems of advice from the experts to help us through this daunting task. Areas where we would really like some inspiration for - small bathroom downstairs. I would really like to do something fun with this room and although small, I think it could work really well with some funky wallpaper or possibly tiles?! I'm just not sure what to do with it. Also - pulling a whole house together?! Where do we start? We have the bigger pieces of furniture but how do I know what nest of tables goes best with a suite? Or what accessories will bring a room together? I'm due a second baby in 2 weeks time so any help at this stage would be so amazing - to guide me on the right interior design path for our new house. 3 years agoSo if you are thinking of anthracite windows it sounds like you are after a more contemporary look so perhaps there is a cleaner way of adding a porch

3 years agolast modified: 3 years agoI’ll be honest, I’m not a fan of the brick at all, you currently have hanging tiles but I think vertical wood cladding would look so much better, possibly black the the wood varying in depth to give an un uniform surface for effect or spaced and glass backed, something very special can be achived if your brave enough!
zinc is a great material, combination of any or all with render in certain areas (if even needed) I think you could have a spectacular frontage to your house

3 years agolast modified: 3 years ago@Anthony (Beano) , Finances pay a big role. that's why I am here so that I can get it right ( hopefully ) , As you have said, You only get to do it once. Radical designs are good and I like them , However they risk going out of fashion.
Another variation here , Mono pitched roof all the way and windows changed to 3 Panes.

3 years agoPersonally I think you can do more with the window proportions to give better impact.
I also really like Anthony’s suggestion of some dark cladding. You might find a designer or architect a great resource to help with refining your thoughts, planning permission and the curating a cohesive palate.

3 years agoMade some corrections to the elevations. Windows and Porch was not to exact scale. However they are now and it makes a difference. Also Increased the window size in the middle as its now flat roof.
