truly comfortable dining chairs
I’ve a new dining table arriving in a month and I’m determined not to spend the next 5 years searching for the perfect chairs, and just choose some.
I love the wishbone chair, and all scandi style chairs. But they just don’t look comfortable!
Plus in Scotland we are still in lockdown mostly so online ordering is potentially the only option meaning I can’t try before I buy.
So has anyone found a dining chair that is truly comfortable? Ideally scandi style and not crazy expensive, because I’ll need 8 or 10. TIA

Comments (127)Lots of ideas....couldn't resist adding my two cents. i copied your photos and did a little cut and paste- it's messy, but hopefully gets the main idea across. i'd put your sofa in front of the large book case, chair by the fireplace, tv on the stand on the wall opposite the fireplace - so you can either look at the fire or the tv. Someone suggested using frames of one color for your photos - an inexpensive way to do that would be to spray paint them all a dark color-black goes with everything. Since your shelves are a medium tone wood, display things that are dark or light so that they contrast against the wood. Limiting your display items pallette to a few values usually helps to unify things. (I think that's why so many people want to paint the shelves or put inserts in the back to help your nice things read more clearly...some get lost). If you want to "splurge" -you may consider having a carpenter make a few solid tall cabinet doors to provide a visual break in the shelving. I'm showing 3 doors - 1 on the right side of the fireplace and 2 on the left to leave two open vertical shelves for display on each side - with things arranged to frame the fireplace as the focal point. To add some height to your big vases, consider stacking some books beneath them. Comments (37)Hi, thanks for your comment. I totally agree - I actually have a large art print on order (vertical/ portrait orientation) and that will be replacing the mirror when it arrives. From previous comments I received everyone seems have different opinions on sofa choices but I think I'm pretty happy with the L shape one I've gone with - it fits the space a lot better (I think!) than the 3 & 2 seaters I previously had. Comments (81)Hi Lisa, nice sofa. I had a red sofa for 10 years and loved it ( though mine was fabric) I've changed the kitchen/ living room and it stuck out like a sore thumb. I gave in and put in a grey leather sectional one and I must say it's much easier to decorate around. Are you in Ireland? Have you heard of the 1933 company, they have very nice suites. 3 years agolast modified: 3 years agoI have these in conker coloured faux leather and they're really comfortable. They don't do my colour any more but these look the same. I have had two frozen shoulders and a broken rib this last year and I can vouch that they are comfy.

3 years agoI recently bought new dining chairs as the other ones were like sitting on a hard rock, awful! I bought the Toronto chairs by John Lewis. Beautifully padded on the seat and back. They come is about 3 colours. I chose forest green because I love green. They arrived within a week and easy to assemble the legs. The only drawback is they are £125 each. I only needed 4. Here it is in pale grey.

2 years agoThanks all. I’ve gone for these… at 135 for 2 hasn’t broken the bank and they are thankfully pretty comfy. Tried the wishbone chair…. Beautiful but not as comfortable as these.
