Wood or stone effect tiles in my new bathroom ? - please help !
Hello....my turn to ask this time !
We're halfway through our bathroom renovation and have come to buying tiles and I still can't decide on which floor style to go with ! My wall tiles will be large format plain matt white but I can't have a white floor (practicality reasons ! I have kids !!)
So my options are stone effect or wood effect ? I like to stick with neutral, easy to change look so don't want patterned tiles which are really in fashion at the moment.
So I have White wall hung gloss vanity, chrome accessories, minimal white tiling around bath and behind toilet/basin. Walls painted very dark navy with chamfered style glass border mirror. White venetian wooden blind and vintage chrome towel rail.
I like the warm effect of wood but don't want it to look nautical. Any ideas anyone ?

3 years agoEven before I saw your ideas I immediately though patterned! I know you want neutral and that is where a patterned floor shines. Apart from tiles, sheet vinyl is very good in a bathroom, slightly non slip and see easy to clean.

Just wanted to suggest that you try pulling the nesting tables forward to be more in line with front of the chairs & placing your floor lamp to the back of them. Comments (7)Well I am a very plain sort of a person and I don't like overdoing patterns. The timber in the cupboards is beautiful and I feel that bench top would detract from it. I would have as plain as possible top in a cream/beige to enhance the timber. This would give you plenty of choice of other colours in the room. I don't feel I can really comment on colours as I can't tell the aspect of your room or the lighting nor do I know what other colours you have through the house. Comments (8)Hello there... I hope I can be of some help as I have almost an identical sitting room - I will just share with you my sitting room this year!! All the walls started out in Dulux Timeless colour so I wanted to add an accent colour- like you, I have one end of the room that is patio doors. So the opposite wall to those, I chose as an accent wall - I know a lot of people suggest not having an accent wall but perhaps having horizontal painted stripes of colour etc... But as I was doing the painting, I knew I would have made a real hash of that!! So the third pic is my first attempt at an accent wall - The Greene Paint company - colour Bassalt. This was nice but I just got bored of it - it worked well against the richness of the wood floor etc and was very much a statement but in a few months I just couldn't settle with it. After several coats of white I have now settled on Farrow & Balls colour Lamp Room Grey. I know this seems all very neutral, but from the second photo you will see I have gone for cream curtains with neutral vertical pom-poms - but, by doing all this, I can now change the accent colour in this room at the drop of a hat and quite importantly - INEXPENSIVELY! For instance, if I wanted to, for Xmas, if I was going to spend a lot of time in that room, I could a. Go for red and cream cushions and create a Scandinavian look! Or b. Go for silver beaded cushions and silver candle jars and have a winter wonderland look! And equally in the summer, I could go for pastel pink floral cushions and a vase of delicate roses to bring the garden into the sitting room or just keep it neutral with ivory roses and a hint of lime green. So my advice would be to keep the expensive things neutral and then you can alter the in expensive things as you go along. I also think one expensive piece in any room is a good investment - be it a huge oversized pewter bowl or a something similar - that again is neutral in colour but is a statement piece. 3 years agoLVT is generally fine up to 27 degrees with UFH but you’d need to check the relevant make etc. A warm stone effect could work particularly if you have the room to add accessories to bring in more warmth? I don’t think a chevron wood effect would give a nautical feel and the pattern gives the effect of texture. I think any wood would work though, just avoid accessorising with anything nautical if that’s not the look you want!
Do you also want to avoid pattern in the shape of the tile as opposed to a print on the tile?

3 years agoPatterned tiles aren’t for everyone, so don’t worry. I do love wood effect porcelain. My sister has them in her kitchen. It comes I so many shades and is suitable with UFH.

I've gone for Valspar Blue Ember...
Here's the towel rail which will be hung under the window....
Now the shops are open I'll be fitting in some tile shopping this week.
