design to include washing machine in UK bathroom

My bathroom needs an overhaul and I’d love to install a washing machine in this room to free up space in the kitchen. The bathroom also needs to include a walk in shower, toilet, vanity.

Can anyone help with a layout that meets the UK zone regulations that stipulate where the washing machine can be placed. I will have to have this rewired to ensure the socket is outside of the bathroom.

do you want a bath as well as a walk in shower? How wide is the space between the door and the wall to the right?

No bath required Caroline. And I’m. It sure if the width (living away from home at the moment). This photo may help

I do not have picture of space but the feet and inches are as follows. 78.5 inches wall which should incorporate fridge freezer with boiler on top. This space meets the door and I think the high object would look best in that position. There is a window in centre of this space which I propose putting cupboards over to have extra storage space. I will create extra light to replace window light over the adjoining door. The other wall is 86.5". this wall meets the lounge/dining area with patio door off to terrace. My concern is worktop space, I thought this end might best incorporate the cooker with microwave overhead. I would be most grateful for your help. Regards Teresagolf

Just a quick note to thank you all for sharing your thought, ideas, experience and time. I especially want to thank Bluenan and decoenthusiaste for being with me through the all process for the last 6 months or so..., just wanted to post few photos of the results (https://www.houzz.com/discussions/any-ideas-for-final-touches-to-this-living-dinning-room-dsvw-vd~569586) as I feel it is not only me who created this space but it is your creations as much as mine. It may not be perfect or according to the the "Rules", but it is Me and my family. Each and every piece was chosen by me in different parts of the world and each one of them has a unique story behind. I am very pleased with my space. I love it! not alot happening at the moment, its winter! alotta rain, lotta. but i am bedding down to get this over with and maybe in the spring the spirits will rise once more. i hope so. i would love to feel i was doing something to keep my hopes and dreams alive, i dont see what i can do until the spring. when i bring the topic up, especially to those that moved away and came down this neck of the woods, they say they had friends who felt it was too far too and moved back home. i guess thats how i feel, thats what i want and i just want to be a bit more uplifted, i think rain dampens down things a bit!!! santa Ma Margaret!

That’s really easy then. Put the washing machine where the radiator / cupboard currently is. House it within a cupboard. you can also put a tumble dryer on top. Lots of ideas within ‘utility rooms’ in Houzz.

the shower you are more limited to because of the wall, you can’t have a shower over the window. It’s best to have a wash basin under the window, not the toilet.

personally I would put the toilet in the corner by the window then the wash basin, then round the next corner I would have storage then the shower then the washing machine by the door. I would put the radiator where the wash basin currently is. hope that makes sense?

It does make sense, thank you. I had thought about your suggestion for locating the washing machine, I just wasn’t sure if it met the ‘zone’ requirements for the electrical standards.

Move the bathroom door forward to the point where the laundry cupboard starts and it’s no longer in the bathroom.

I'd be a bit concerned about humidity levels causing the washing machine to rust. UK machines are not generally designed for humid atmospheres like bathrooms.

One plan - that’s why you are the pro! That’s the best idea. It also means that if someone is in the shower the washing machine could be used too!

Lou - if you created a pocket door for the bathroom beside the washing machine you wouldn’t lose space for the ‘door opening.’
