Where could we put a second bathroom?

Hello,
We are about to complete on a 1930s doer upper. I have one teen at home and an older child as a frequent visitor.
We would like to put a shower room in and eventually convert the main bathroom to an ensuite. There is a toilet under the stairs so hopefully the pipe work would be easy for the bedroom above. However, I keep toying with the idea of having it in the corner room and making it a Jack and Jill type bathroom with the other bedroom. This way, I wouldn’t lose space making a corridor and could have room for a bath in it too.
what would you do, and is there another alternative I am missing?

Comments (21)My understanding: You didn't find any problem functionally, but you feel this looks old & need some brightness & change in this. My advise: 1). Remove towel rod, shift it next to tub or behind closet & have full length mirror, which will make your space double & reflect natural light as well thus makes the space more bright. 2). Get couple of plants (small plants or bush type or creepers which doesn't occupy much space on floor but grows vertically). 3). Get some artifacts made from bright colored glass, can flower vase or wall hangings or glass tiles etc, these can be of yellow or Bright Orange color these are to be hung on walls opp to mirror or pasted(3M tape both side glued) if you are using tiles. 4). Get a mat of same color as artifacts & place between tub & closet. these all are easily done by yourself. OR if you can afford to then replace only green tiles & floor tiles if you wish to OR all tiles....See MoreNew bathroom
Comments (2)Tastes change with time - and fashion promotes the latest trends so that eventually what ever you choose could look dated... It's what keeps business going - so maybe only tile where it's needed... Personally, if I were choosing for myself, I'd choose plain white in the largest tile with absolute minimum grout as I hate when the grout looks old / grubby as always happens . Then I'd add colour with towels that could be changed to give a different feel when I fancied a change if you see what I mean ! That's my taste - yours could be totally different ! There's loads of beautiful pics on Houzz - best idea is to do a bathroom search and see what appeals to you ! Then think is it practical ? Can I afford it ? Will it suit the house ! As a pro I wonder if you could offer your thoughts on a couple of scenarios 1 - Leave bath where it is - what would be involved in moving the shower 4-6 inches to the centre of the bath? I did consider the P shaped bath and will consider your suggestion for a shorter bath to allow room for the toilet, but I currently had to put in a door stop to protect the shower door from the entrance door handle and I would be concerned about a rounded door being even closer. If I left the bath where it is I have a couple of options, turning the toilet and cistern 90 degrees to the adjoining wall - see above for the considerations there, or I have also considered switching the toilet and sink. I would put the sink facing the wall where the cistern currently is have a large-ish vanity from the base of the bath to the wall, and the if the toilet was where the sink is it would not interfere with the doors for the hot press as the seat would be considerably lower than the sink is currently thus giving me the better access I want. In this scenario the main issue for me would be the toilet would be facing the entrance door, a bit unsightly but if it gave me the space I want I think I could live with the compromise. 2 - A bit more involved, but I have also considered moving the bath sideways along the short length of the room, shower end over the space where the cistern is currently and moving the sink and toilet to the space where the bath is currently. I think this would allow me room for a vanity and maybe also a tall storage cupboard for the towels and linens currently in the hot press. The obvious concern with this is the shower spray in the direction of the hot press, if I got the storage I needed elsewhere in the bathroom I wouldn't be concerned about those getting wet, but would want to ensure I don't end up with a leak over the stairs. Access would also be an issue if repairs were required for the shower pump or the hot water system. You would have to step into the bath to gain access. Comments (6)Also, do you really need a bath in it? You could stick in a 1500mm shower along the right hand wall but back towards the door then a toilet and sink opposite each other under the window. Loads of natural light at the sink (could even be a double sink) and plenty of room to move around without it feeling too cramped....See More

We also will be knocking through the kitchen/dining room and creating a utility room. The downstairs used to look like this, so should be easy to change back...
