There are a thousand ways to use mirrors beautifully in a living room -- just not any old mirror in any old place, that I would agree with I think you should have art over the fireplace, and I see potential for using a scattering of small mirrors to bring light into the alcove and counterbalance the somewhat awkward angle of the TV. I'm assuming there's nowhere else to put the TV? I agree that the furniture in that corner is rather too flimsy to handle either the size of the TV or the bold black boxes of the fireplace and hearth. How about a striking floor vase? Lovely space, I imagine at this stage you have got sorted with the table and chairs... what did you choose. My flooring looks like yours a bit... ceramic tile made to look like wood... I'm thinking of a wooden table and chairs for mine... currently dark grey but I think ash or light oak would warm the space nicely

Hi, I have found lights I love but am unsure of configuration over my dining table. Am thinking 2 large (450mm wide) or 3 small 250mm (or 300mmm) over the table. The restriction I have is the flat roof width above the table is just 93cm wide (see where current IKEA shade is hanging). I'm worried might look a bit squeezed, The table length is 2 meters. The 3rd picture is similar but with 5 sides instead of 4. Could pick either. Would love some opinions and any other thoughts? Thank you!

Hi, what a lovely "canvas" to begin! My late husband loved wood. I think it is too drab and have changed mine for glass and various off whites as the rooms are non-square here and the house is old but takes modern too. My gut feeling is that the way forward is to choose an exciting "theme" for downstairs first. Would you consider bright and airy sky, or tropical, or geometric, or bookish, or carnival, or countryside, what about a space rocket on the wall for the kids - it can be covered when they grow tired of it? And as it is it has my pet hate - a good window - wasted - with a grim reminder of housework - a sink in front of it instead of one out of sight with a strip light over it!!!!
