Need help with dual room(1. open plan kitchen/dining 2. living room)

Recently moved to a new property and really confused with how to setup this space. I am attaching layout and some pictures of how it has been setup currently. I need advise on how best to best position and place my furniture. Open to replace the tv units, sideboard, lightings. Ceiling lamp shades and curtains came with the property. Would surely be replacing these to match with the sofa. Looking to add a bench for the bay window and a nice rug in the living room. But confused with the color palette.

Any help/expertise would be much appreciated.

You have an amazing blank canvas so some questions to help: And there are soo many interior styles so some questions to help:

What is your style ? if you are not sure then

What colour is the sofa and the style. Do you have a photo?

What are the other furniture do you have ? Any photos ?

Do you like colours pastels or brights ? What are your favourite colours ?

Do you have a favourite shirt, skirt, jumper that has a pattern or style to it? photo please.

Do you have a picture or photos that have a coloured frame ? What colour?

Do you like plants ? or you have any already ?

Are their any sentimental objects ? what is it, description ?

What is the rug you want to buy is there a pic of it ?

Are you thinking of some sort of fire, faux stove, or a TV for a focal point in the room ?

Do you want to have a workspace in the area too?

Oh do you have kids if yes then storage for toys etc if older storage for games consoles, games ?

MMMmmmI think that is it to start.

Thank you for commenting. I was hoping to place double doors /pocket doors between the kitchen and living room that I could open or close off particularly in the depths of winter. I like my heat. Doing that leaves me with less wall space for kitchen units particularly the American style fridge freezer but something has to give. The back wall of the house opens/or rather doesn't open to the garden at the moment but I would like it to do so. So nothing unusual here, I just want a kitchen /diner / utility that opens onto the garden for outside entertainment, but I think my main struggle is with the length and narrowness of the room. I'm finging it really hard to visualise a functional working space.

Thanks for your comments. I think we've decided on wooden flooring throughout the open plan space but it's just what we do in living area. We had wanted carpet to get that warm cosy affect. We are considering under floor heating but I understand that can be expensive. I know we can put a rug down although I'm not sure whether that will have the desired warm and cosy feel. The other option is to fit carpet in a rectangle or circle shape in the living area. Just not sure how that's going to look and how best to join it to the wood so that it looks good. I've not seen open areas with carpet and tiles/wooden flooring...it seems that usually flooring is the same throughout with a rug in the living area. Any suggestions? I attach a plan which shows what it will hopefully look like. The dining table will go near to the patio doors. The sofa will be in an L shape with the back to the kitchen on one side and the other back to the dining area on the other side. Any flooring ideas would be appreciated!

Mary, can you provide a rough plan showing measurements, windows, entrances/exits (with doors or not), and where the stove is situated? Are you starting afresh with furniture, or is there anything already there that should stay? Pics of the room would also be a huge help.

A few things I would change from experience...instead of a single and double door I would spend the extra money and put in a bifold corner section...would open up the space so much more. as for the kitchen...completely flip your design...put your breakfast bar closer to the window...make it large and multipurpose with the hob in it and then put your main band of cabinets either left, right or behind? We have recently restructured our existing cabinets to this layout and put in new countertops and it works far better than before!
