Kitchen Diner Layout

Here is my current kitchen diner layout. I was considering extending out to the side by roughly 1.5m and squaring off at the back. Interested in peoples advice whether it would be worth the effort/cost.

We dont currently have room for our dryer and have no downstairs toilet so was wondering if should incorporate space for these if we decide to extend. Garden is relatively small so extending out into the garden isnt an option

Could you post a plan of the whole ground floor? Where is the bathroom located upstairs? How many bedrooms have you got? What's the head height like under the stairs?

The long black one is the back garden door way.The smaller one on the same wall is the door way leading to extension;s corridor. The black square at the front is the door way to enter the room. The white squares are the supportive pillars for the back wall and the long one is the chimney breast. Thank you for your answer :)

To begin designing a kitchen you draw the entire space to scale on a computer or on paper. Then place your appliances sink table chairs etc on the floor plan. You do this to understand if your ideas can even work the way you envision them. I would recommend using a kitchen designer. Working by yourselves, the kitchen design would be limited by your experience and abilities, and starting the process in the wrong order does not bode well. After the kitchen is designed then have several contractors come to give you bids and their input. This will save their time and make the bids lower and more accurate. After you have potential floor plans and have thought things through, this is when advice from Houzzers can be helpful. When the job is not completely thought out advice on Houzz can be dangerous. You will be encouraged to make decisions also not thought out and coments will seem valid no matter who is making them.

Not quite for the kitchen. Sorry, I should have drawn it...the units set on the bottom ŵall are correct but just in a straight line..The other part of the L shape is on ŵall B on your plan. The dining table would be in front of the units on the bottom ŵall. If unclear (quite possibly from my description!) I'll post a pic tomorrow

Head height understairs would be too low if accessed straight from the hallway. But it is about 1.9 metres in that cupboard thats currently in the kitchen

Had a play around with your floorplan based on a 1.5m side extension plus a porch extension (if possible!)

1 = utility cupboard (washer, dryer, worktop, shelves above)

2 = F/F (built-in or just void with overhead cupboard)

3 = Larder cupboard

Thanks. Food for thought... Id not considered moving the doors!

One idea I have been thinking of is getting rid of the cupboard in the kitchen. Having a 4m one wall kitchen along the left wall with a parallel island infront of it.

Then having the 1.5m wide extension as a seperate entity with utility/toilet

Wasnt sure if 4m wall as well as the island was big enoug

You wouldn't be able to fit in a dining table, an island and a run of units if you take up the width with a utility room. Could you do a side to rear?

What are the recommended clearences? I was working on the basis of 600 for units, 1000 between island and unit, 900 island(no seating), 1100 walkway between island and dining table. 900 width table leaves 800 for the last set of chairs which you wont need to walk behind. Which bit is too narrow?

I agree with you though, not much wiggle room. Shame I cant just have the toilet of the diner, but guess thats a bit strange

Sorry! Yes, that could work if you don't require seating on the island (I assumed you would want seating). It would be a bit of a squeeze and would make the route to the garden a little tighter and a little more circuitous.

Could do a bench against the wall to get more space. Put the sink on the island maybe to free up more space for tall units (larder, fridge freezer) and worktop for kitchenware. You'd also get windows on both ends for utility and toilet.

Main bugbear besides it being more cramped is the expanse of wall which you can't put anything against as it'll block your route around the kitchen. I feel this would be better suited to an L configuration of units.
