Extension layout advice please

Hi hive mind,
here are our plans for our downstairs open plan kitchen extension and garage conversion to bathroom.
We're struggling to decide if placement of sliding doors, kitchen window and sky lights are good or need tweaking.....is there anything in particular we need to consider? Back of house is pretty much west facing so we get a lot of sun directly in the back in the afternoon and evening (I am a little concerned it will be too hot and am wondering if reducing to 3 sky lights would make any difference at all?)
a few points, the bi folds between living room. and open plan are not decided on yet...maybe wooden crittal style just opening of sliding (prob not bifold) and cupboard under stairs by front door (currently wc) will become large coat cupboard and utility storage (awkward bits like ironing board and hoover etc). We have small ish family bathroom which has no room for a bath as we want a walk in shower, hence bath downstairs (hoping to make this a real 'destination' luxury bathroom downstairs.
any helpful tips or ideas welcome? it's all pretty overwhelming and I'm nervous we're missing something or going to make a mistake.

Excellent layout,
Obvious that the architect and yourself have addressed everything,
Can't add anything really

Possibly make a entrance door from wc to garage,
as an alternative unless its needed as a shed

Is the space about 6m wide? If so, your island looks a bit small and lost in proportion. I'm guessing the island there is 1.8 or 2m, it can and would look better bigger in my opinion in that width of room.

I like the idea with the pink highlighted edge. This opens u the kitchen dining space but keeps the lounge and study separate as you wanted. I would add bifold doors if possible along the back wall of the dining room to make it feel even bigger. Hope this helps

In the main I agree with Patricia. I would move the dining table to the living area, move the living area to the kids room, move the island a little more to the right so it is just a little more over than the width of the entrance walkway, at the moment it is more to the left and almost interrupts the entry flow enough to keep catching your self on the edge, with the table moved it will allow this, plus there may be enough room for more storage on the right hand wall decorative or practical and naturally shallower than standard depth, consider what it would be used for then you can make an informed decision on depth. The island sink and bin are not far from the tall unit pantry and fridge, so no I don't think they are to far away, whatever you get from these places are to be opened probably by the sink or bin, or opened to eat from the packaging. Also why would you have a log burner and an aga in the same room unless your aga is an electric one? They both give of tremendous heat, an aga is constant and unless you have planned for other oven types it will be year round so summer as well, as Patricia mentioned bare in mind how the sun transits your house, where it's position is when you will be in these areas which I'm guessing will be most of the time. I know plenty of people who gave had " improvements revamps etc" to their kitchen dining living spaces with plenty of regrets, loads of glass to bring the outside in, underfloor heating and an aga, the underfloor heating is switched off you can't zone it to where you want it, and the aga gives of to much heat with the glass combined, all the hard surfaces, no acoustics were considered by the so called "architects" sound is a problem too, something else to consider, someone else had to have some of their new kitchen change to make room for an air conditioning unit because of the heat, this is very expensive to run constantly, summers are almost unbearable, these things also affect materials being used such as leather and wood drying out and cracking/splitting. Months of thinking about this layout and this is where we are at. I spoke with numerous kitchen makers and this is the best I have come up with for our open plan design. The space is 10.16m x 5.8m with a vaulted hip ceiling. Please give me your thoughts on this? is it functional? what could I/should I change?

Hi, looking for best layout of living room. It's a long narrow room with a bay window. It's mainly used for the boys playing xbox, but would still like to create a nice room for all the family. Main questions are, do you agree that a TV would not work if hung over fire place because of narrow room? What to hang on walls? What to put in corner where light coloured book shelf is? Present book shelf is just in storage there!! I like the couches so am keeping them!! Any advice much appreciated,

Personally I would swap the kitchen sink to a side wall as I think the sink looking out at the garden is a dated idea and I would rather have floor to ceiling glass.

Not every window has to open- you could have some economies on the glazing and add air conditioning.

I don’t understand the need for two wcs.

I think I might swap the bath for lots of cupboards so that there is plenty of space for a vacuum, ironing board etc.

funny you say this as my first sketches were for sink where hob is and a floor to ceiling window looking out to garden! for the exact reason that sink there is 'traditional' so I totally get what your saying.

the reason we changed from that plan was at that point the hob was on the island, when we changed that idea I then wasn't sure about both hob and sink along the run of cabinets, both facing a wall, wondered if we would feel we'd made the kitchen boring and antisocial as would always be facing the away from the room? and lack of pantry we were quite pleased with the extra cupboards it brings.

the understair we will be taken out so the garage conversion bathroom will be the only we on ground floor, the bath is a must I'm afraid as we are really missing it and don't want to cramp the upstairs bathroom by putting one in as that's the high use shower.

I've always assumed air con would be expensive and ugly? we are going for electric velux sky lights so will be easy to open.

thanks for your input, always so helpful to get other perspectives.
