Ideally something to keep it out of sight but I’m open to any // all ideas, the main issue I’ve found is that most standard TV units are not built for something of this size so it might require some out-of-the-box type solution if I can‘t find an acceptable unit.

Have you looked at IKEA Besta? It has lots of layout possibilities

I had seen the IKEA Besta but I’m trying to avoid that student / dormitory / man cave type look (hope that makes sense), no offence to anyone that likes the Besta but seeing it in friends homes it looks “cheap” :(

Okay :-) I think it depends on how you put it together and what kind of doors you use. But I get your point. Did you check Made.com ?

I do like the stuff on Made.com, I’ll see if they have something that’s big enough to fit the PS5 (that 40cm makes it too big to stand/lay in most units).

I think going bespoke with a local cabinet maker might be my best option to get the desired result (Thanks for the advice, I’ll look into it).

What about a storage footstool? You can put all that sort of stuff in it, use it as a coffee table and put your feet up on it at the end of a hard days gaming 😊. I love mine. This sort of thing

If it wasn’t the only input for the TV (I use it for everything from gaming, Netflix, Spotify to just general TV through Sky) popping it in the footstool when not in use to maintain a clean area would have been a great idea (not something I had even considered actually).

I was going to suggest Made.com which I can see others have suggested as well. I'm not sure of your taste but I've seen some lovely cabinets with woven rattan fronts which people use for media units because with any luck the remote will still work "through" the doors so to speak. Although I’m a little reluctant to modify new pieces it might be the only option (modern controllers use a Bluetooth connection so visibility isn’t an issue anymore), the main issue I’m having is that simply the drawers // cupboards // sections don’t accommodate the consoles enormous size (I have both a PS5 and an XSX, the XSX seems to just fit for the most part but nothing has a compartment large enough for the PS5) and that’s before having to possibly add cabinet extraction to prevent overheating. This isn’t the fault of the furniture designers, just a combo of the new games hardware growing ever bigger (were in small PC tower territory now) and the obscure (horrific IMO) design choice making it look like some type of spaceship that simply won’t work in the majority of homes.

My husband has his PS5 lying horizontally, not vertically like you have shown. Any cabinet with sliding doors or shelves with doors which can open when in use and then closed to hide it when open would be fine. Horizontally, it's much like other media equipment and much easier to accommodate.

I ended up settling on a sideboard from Furniture Village as it was the only thing I could find which met my requirements (big enough for the PS5, not dwarfed by my 65” TV above it and tall enough to hide the radiator when sat on the couch);

I’ve had to modify the unit to allow more airflow to the PS5 by cutting out the backboard and adding a metal mesh panel (this works great! although everyone might not be happy cutting up their new £1900 unit), this is definitely something to considder as without the additional airflow the PS5 fans would ramp-up pretty fast (although not PS4 fast) and the section of the unit where it’s store would become obviously hot.

A good solution is to use a media unit with adjustable shelves or custom cabinet sections deep enough for the PS5 to stand vertically or lie horizontally with proper airflow. Many people also use IKEA BESTÅ units because they look clean and modern while hiding consoles and cables nicely. You could even add a small click here label or hidden access panel setup inside the cabinet for easier cable management and quick console access without affecting the room’s overall look. Just make sure there’s enough ventilation space around the console, especially for the PS5, since it runs quite warm during gaming sessions.
