What type of chair should I add to this room?
Hi, I’m furnishing our lounge and have already added in a tan leather armchair to accompany the blue navy velvet sofa that we’ve had for years. we would ideally like to have another seat in the room for when (hopefully when) we have people over. I‘m concerned there will be too many different types of seating so thought about getting a small, navy blue velvet chair (scallop chair perhaps) and I’m also worried that adding another chair will clutter the room??? Any ideas greatly appreciated. I’ve still got to put pictures up, fill the shelves, add a rug, add some cushions and throws to soften the room. Oh and we‘re also having shutters put in shortly. Here are some photos of the room from all angles.
I had thought about adding a chair underneath the tv.

Comments (6)It looks like a Thonet Bentwood chair of which there are many many copies. They were made in Czechoslovakia , as was. I have a set of copies but can see no name. Comments (9)That's a working fireplace isn't it? I agree that the fire surround is probably not in keeping with your tastes and would probably look perfectly at home in a rustic country cottage, but just not for you. There are several options open to you, and if your a bit handy with the DIY, none of them need to cost much, it's just a little hard work. Remove the fire surround and see what dimensions you have with the actual fireplace, it might be that you can also remove the iron plate around it, thus leaving you with a much smaller actual fire. However, be aware that it will affect, the plaster, the skirting and the hearth, as everything is currently built to home the fire surround. You could go............at that point for making good the walls and keep it simple by having a floating shelf only, or another fire surround that's simpler. Loads on Ebay! Comments (10)Some great advice there! I guess I'm trying to create a comfortable elegant feel/mood to the room. It is a child-free house, so I don't have to worry about little hands marking the fabric, but I do take the point on board - will consider darker fabrics. I do like the eames style chairs, and I will look into them in more detail, although I think I prefer the idea of a soft seat, rather than a hard one. One of my main concerns was in relation to the style/finish of the chair legs.....I love the legs on the table, so I want a chair that will complement the table. 3 years agoI love the bright colour in the ottoman, great on a winter evening. I would go off at a tangent with the choice of chair, I think your room could take it. How about the pattern of the top pic and colours similar to the bottom one to bring the room together? I like the diagonal pattern which would go with your beautiful parquet flooring.
