over mantle mirror

I have a narrow fireplace with freestanding stove that protrudes, I would like to get a mirror for over the mantle. I did buy one from M&S 70x 75cm arched overmantle mirror but it was too narrow. What do you recommend?

Rule of thumb is usually 2/3rd's the width of the mantle is a size that will look comfortable. Over mantle mirrors do add a 'finished' feel and look very sophisticated but it depends what style you're really going for. I quite like the window style mirrors you can get now for a twist on the traditional over mantle mirrors. Can tie classic to industrial or mid century quite happily.

There are a thousand ways to use mirrors beautifully in a living room -- just not any old mirror in any old place, that I would agree with I think you should have art over the fireplace, and I see potential for using a scattering of small mirrors to bring light into the alcove and counterbalance the somewhat awkward angle of the TV. I'm assuming there's nowhere else to put the TV? I agree that the furniture in that corner is rather too flimsy to handle either the size of the TV or the bold black boxes of the fireplace and hearth. How about a striking floor vase? My first instinct was to move it to a garage/basement for good storage but the more I think about it the more I think I'd prime inside and out with Kilz then apply a couple of coats of white semi-gloss (use good quality paint.. Benjamin Moore) in the same white that you'd use for all the trim in your room. Be sure to lightly sand and 'tack rag' between coats. If the handles are removable by all means remove them prior to painting...fill in holes, sand smooth and paint as previous sentence. Set up inside the way you find most functional. Buy nice new knobs ( maybe crystal?) and, if it is as tall as it appears, have crown molding installed to create a custom look. It is probably far better built than anything else you could find.
