Home Office decorating ideas please

Hello you lovely talented lot... can I please get your help on some inspiration for painting and decorating my office. Would love to hear your suggestions as I am totally out of ideas!

Explanation below along with pictures hopefully gives an idea of the space. The room is narrow and long with a low ceiling. It was a garage conversion into home office.

Wall 1 - on the narrow side is a large window of 8 feet with a yellow roller blind in a plaid woollen fabric [will be keeping that].

Wall 2 - narrow end opposite side of the window are mirrored wardrobes, which reflect light from window [sadly also everything else in between!]

Wall 3 - long side has the built-in units. This is the main workspace, and I just cannot decide what to do with it. Paint the splashback [trial colour painted] or put up cork sheeting, or wallpaper, or even fabric?

Wall 4 – Behind the chairs has so much happening, it has the entrance door, step down, a radiator, a shelf, a fuse cupboard [broken door will be fixed]. This problem wall is the backdrop to my Zoom meetings unfortunately.

Until we went into lockdown last year, this office was hardly used. Now I spend 8 hours 6 days a week in here – and with these virtual meetings I really must decorate the room.

Exploring the thought of painting the ceiling dark [to hide the dreadful artex]perhaps same colour as the units, and painting wall /door/radiator in mellow yellow like the blind ?… but open to all ideas and looking forward to your suggestions and ideas. TIA!

Hello,

Lovely amount of space for working, lucky you! It looks like you have extra seating and in such a small space do you really need them all to be in there? For example, the chair that's next to the mirrors? You could remove that and replace the box seat with something more stylish and less clunky? If you send me the wall measurements from the door to the left side of mirror I can give you some suggestions to start you off. I think it will look "neater" if you could have the same style chairs in the room if you do need the others. The back drop wall that can be seen when you have a zoom call would benefit from different artwork or wall decor.

Do you want to keep the shelf that's on the right side or would you be open to replacing it? Also, you could get a radiator cover which always looks nice. In terms of the workspace and cupboards, it will really make it look better if you can declutter and get rid of anything that does not need to be stored there, then you could have some nice decor items especially in the display cabinets. Sorry it has taken me weeks to return and thank you. Your suggestions are gratefully received and many are on my list to attend to.

I think what I didn’t make very clear in my original post that I was looking to bounce ideas specifically for the walls and ceiling.

To paint or paper, colour themes to consider etc. Just something to give it some oomph while still being a functional office.

Tidying and accessorising will follow in due course, as this room has long been a neglected dumping ground until lockdown kicked in last year, and is now used extensively!

Hopefully sometime soon I can get started on decorating this space and will share pictures again here.

It seems that 2 story houses are becoming much more the norm here. At least in the metro areas. People are wanting bigger houses and builders can get more house on less land. Mattresses, box springs and dressers have to be the WORST things to get up stairs ;-) I love the look of staircases and love the view a 2nd story provides. I'll tell ya though - we're not elderly (YET!) but I love not carrying laundry and other items up and down stairs ;-)

How will you pose for your Miss Photogenic photo op? Will you go with the Carmen Miranda fruit bowl tiara? Or would the Easter egg thingamadooeys suffice? Decisions, decisions..... Maybe Grover could photo shop each one with your dress so we can decide? We wouldn't want to break any decorating rules because we do have our reputations to uphold. LOLOLOLOLOL

A few things I would change from experience...instead of a single and double door I would spend the extra money and put in a bifold corner section...would open up the space so much more. as for the kitchen...completely flip your design...put your breakfast bar closer to the window...make it large and multipurpose with the hob in it and then put your main band of cabinets either left, right or behind? We have recently restructured our existing cabinets to this layout and put in new countertops and it works far better than before!

We have a vast range of wallpaper murals which would look great in a home office like yours!

Adding some colour or texture will really bring the space to life. Maybe create a feature wall on either side of the door. OR install wallpaper behind your desk under the shelving for a statement desk space!
