Single alcove bedroom, need more built in storage. Which option?

My main bedroom has one alcove where there is currently a built in wardrobe, but it's not enough storage space for all my clothes and shoes. I already use my nightstands and ottoman bed for storage.

The layout:

Alcove width: 175cm

Alcove depth: 65cm

Wall from end of alcove to door: 170cm

There is a radiator in the middle of the left wall with a vanity table and my bed is on the right wall. The windows are floor to ceiling and can't be blocked.

I'm considering 2 options:

1. Replace the current wardrobe with an L shaped corner wardrobe that comes to the ensuite door.

2. Take the whole area and create a small walk in wardrobe with a pocket door

Which idea do you think is better? I'm open to any other suggestions!

Thank you for this idea! I considered something like this but there's a radiator on the left wall...Seems dangerous to put my bed (which is upholstered) right in front of it. Also this would involve covering part of the alcove space with a new bit of wall?

Thanks Chemayne, yes, that is correct re: position of the bed. There is a small bedroom behind where the bed is currently and ultimately i'd like to turn it into a walk in robe. That's funny, i never considered the grey bed to be masculine, although my mum didn't like it so maybe that should have been a clue! I keep coming back to it though, but not too sure if it is too low for the room. Unfortunatley there doesn't seem to be many grey beds around to compare it with. As for those pictures, thank you. However i don't think any of them are my taste. They are all a bit busy i think. I like the white trim which i am going to get done. I think from these i'm leaing towards Ighter coloured walls as well. I think the blue walls on number 1 is a bit much and no:4 with different curtains would be okish too.

Hi Travis and SoYoung - thanks for mentioning the fireplace.....I was thinking that I would keep it simple with a wood shelf over it and a large piece of Art but I now think it might be a bit lost. Would love some ideas as it needs to work with the built-ins which are slightly domineering. Also, Liam_Boyle - agree re the unbalance. The TV will be staying but I have a lovely coffee table and 2 identical sofas coming so I'm hoping to lay out symmetrically in the room. Will keep 1 of the chairs. Hope this will balance up. Thanks.

About your plumber saying "plumb layout is confirmed". That is a load of rubbish. It's fairly easy to move drains around (yes he might have to rip up some walls, but he can also do off-the-wall installations to avoid that). In a small bath proper placement is of the utmost importance!!! If you have the bathtub and shower next to each other that will be much better and then the glass separator idea should work. padmaramachandran's (see post above) setup sounds more reasonable to me as well (see first picture below). This is similar to your setup but as you have more space you could put in bath tub and shower where the picture only shows a bath tub. Also if you do it that way you could theoretically have a bidet or a wider wash basin (small double perhaps too). Example layout: Do you need a bathtub in the guest bath? If not you have a lot more room to work with. E.g. for a double wash basin and large walking shower and a bidet (2nd picture). Example of off-the-wall installation for toilet and bidet and a large walking shower. Finally if you ignore this advice and do it the way you planned ;) then I suggest you really thing about that glass separator. Doing it right will make a lot of difference (see 3rd picture). not alot happening at the moment, its winter! alotta rain, lotta. but i am bedding down to get this over with and maybe in the spring the spirits will rise once more. i hope so. i would love to feel i was doing something to keep my hopes and dreams alive, i dont see what i can do until the spring. when i bring the topic up, especially to those that moved away and came down this neck of the woods, they say they had friends who felt it was too far too and moved back home. i guess thats how i feel, thats what i want and i just want to be a bit more uplifted, i think rain dampens down things a bit!!! santa Ma Margaret!

Excellent idea there by @Jonathan. You'd have to move the radiator (or perhaps change it to a column and place in the corner?) but it'd be a nicer placement of the bed, better paths around the room and way more storage. Personally, I'd go one less wardrobe and have the vanity table and chair parallel to the bed with a large wall mirror and overhead shelves

If you want a simpler option, option 1 looks the best solution.

Yes I think getting a vertical radiator will make a big difference! I'll have to ask a plumber which positions are possible. Thank you all.
