Help with potential kitchen colours

I'm hoping to buy a house which has a lovely light kitchen/diner, currently mostly white including the floor.

However, the kitchen cabinets are bright gloss white, and the countertops black quartz, so there is a particularly stark contrast between the two which isn't really my style. I wouldn't have red as a highlight colour either.

What other cupboard colours would go with the black quartz, if I could stretch to replacing the doors?

Or would you just paint the walls, and leave the kitchen fittings as is?

Any thoughts welcomed.

What a lovely room.

To be honest, I would live with it “as is” for a couple of months and see what you think.

Our kitchen was very similar in colour (white gloss units and black granite worktops): not my style / choice, but we lived with it for 7 years before replacing the kitchen. Our floor was a sort of teak wood and our walls a lovely Farrow and Ball “Light Blue” (which is a lovely warm blue). There does feel like there is a lot of white in that room...

Gosh, the 'bones' of the place are so fantastic, I would just live in it until you decide what to do if anything and what your budget would be. The floor is the issue for me, the grout lines make it look a bit busy. However, the room itself is amazing and has so much potential. I wouldn't rush to replace doors, I would see what it is like to live in first.

I really like the clean lines of your kitchen , it's beautiful and I would not add to much colour but you could use some accessories with green and white that would compliment this minimalistic kitchen. For example adding a bright green plant/s or an accessory the same colour as the clock on your top wall can put everything in a nice perspective!

Dear Éilíse Sullivan, the mahogany wardrobe looks like a great project! The image is too small for me to see the details of it; it looks like has glass/metal door at the top part and design details on the draws. If you send me a better quality image and with the door closed I can visualised it for you in any other colour you like if it helps. Replacing part of the furniture (glass) with solid panels covered in wall paper or fabric, using decoupage for the inside of the drawers or muted colours on the outside and brights on the inside ... are all possibility depending in which room you want to place it and what you are going to use it for. Are you going to do it for yourself, just for fun or to sell/present? I would paint the back panel in a darker colour, also the inside of the wardrobe part and all the horizontal and vertical straight lines to frame the different units: draws, 'open shelf' cabinet at the top and door. I would go for wall paper on the inside of the draws, something sympathetic with the darker tone on the back panel ... the handle can stay or be replaced (I need a closer look); they can really give a wist to the furniture if changed. For the choice of colours ... it really depend on where it goes and what you want to do with it. The room's images you posted are quite different in style. You could try to 'blend' the piece in to the room's design scheme by choosing complementary colours or go the opposite and bring in a bold statement. I like bold statements! Thanks for the comments.

If I am successful in buying (don't like to assume anything before contracts exchange!), I will certainly live with it to see how the light falls and so on.

I was just wondering whether anyone had successfully mixed black quartz worktops with other cabinet colours - I've seen some lovely darker cabinets (darker green/darker blue), but wonder whether mixing them with black worktops works?

Wood would be the obvious choice, pale wood looks very good with black and wood of course works with white.

It may not be practical for your personal storage but I’d take down the glazed cabinets and replace with wood shelves. Paint the walls, add a couple of jute rugs and a rattan pendant over the table

Yes, I'm keen to 'live' with those wall cabinets for a bit to see if I like them better than I do at present! Will take your suggestion on board, thank you!

That makes sense, you could always just change the fronts on those cabinets to wood?

I'm mostly turned off by the floor. If the kitchen is in good shape, leave it be for now. I do agree though on replacing the glazed doors.

Thank you - interesting - the floor isn't worrying me at present, but I will definitely live in it before making any changes. I think tbh it's the black quartz worktop which is something I'd definitely not have picked.......

Then get a quote for a new one? Even laminated ones are not too shabby these days (and feels less cold if you decide to extend a bit so a bar is created). Composite looks smarter though, but costly in that size.
