Flooring Hallways Design Dilemma

Hallway dilemma

We are in the process of redecorating our 1900s terraced house and would appreciate some advice on the hallway.
It currently has textured anaglypta wallpaper as seen in the photos, which we would like to replace. However, we dread to think whats underneath! We are thinking of doing wood panelling though the hall and up the stairs, does anyone have any experience of doing this yourself and whether it can be done over the top of the wallpaper? I would be trying to avoid removing it all costs.
Photos of our hallway and some of our inspiration...we plan to remove the carpet at some point too!

Is the condition if the wallpaper good? Reason I ask is I was watching an interiors show the other day, hallway like yours and they painted the wallpaper dark and it was stunning! Couldn't believe it!

I would leave the paper if its in good condition or can be refreshed with paint—real angalypta is expensive and as Ellie says, it seems to be making a comeback.

fragle0 ... congratulations on the new addition to your family. Have been following your lovely changes. You probably won't have time to work on the decor for a while. Just wanted to suggest that you try pulling the nesting tables forward to be more in line with front of the chairs & placing your floor lamp to the back of them. This will give a bit more light at night for reading in that area.Also switching the plant by the fireplace & the one on the corner by the sofa.

Hi there, First of all, what a lovely space - the floor tiles are a really gorgeous feature! With these windows, it really is up to you. Shutters are fantastic for creating a clean, uncluttered feel, while, as Colourhappy says, a Roman blind is a great way to add a luxurious feel. Both create a classic look that will never go out of style. Alternatively, as you say, curtains are a gorgeous choice. Floor length curtains would create a real sumptuous look, but you may want to consider how this might block your radiator, especially if you intend to open and close them regularly. Dining/Living Room Help Needed

Hi all, I bought my first home (Yay!) and I was wondering how you would design the following living/dining room. I have attached the measures as the pictures are from the original add and might look more spacious than it really is. The living room kinda has to happen where the fireplace is, which is also where you enter the room from the hall, but I am struggling to fit a couch in there that you don’t fall over. I’m thinking of moving the dining area to the black wall now and the couch to the other end of the room which is also the west and garden facing side. But then I’d lose the lovely fire place. So that’s my Dilemma thaha :) Let me know what you think. Any help is greatly appreciated :D

Many years ago I lived in a house with anaglypta and we tried to remove it! What a nightmare. The walls were lathe and plaster and it pulled the plaster off the wall.
I agree with the others I would definitely leave it and paint it

hi Sam,
the look you are trying to achieve can be done with leaving the paper in place, although it is always good to remove old layers of paper etc when embarking on a major piece of work. The system you are planning will be carried out by a joinery company who will make the panelling. I think it is a good look and ultimately you need to have what you like. Anaglypta is nice but the pattern you have is not the best example I've seen. my tip is to have it made in wood not mdf.
