Kitchen Diner Design Dilemma!

Hi,

We have bought a complete renovation house and are currently having the rewire and central heating redone so need to think about the kitchen.

We have removed the wall between the kitchen diner but are now stuck on how to layout the kitchen. We would rather have the kitchen on the left of the room as the right has the french doors and it would be a nicer view from the dining table.

On one side of the kitchen is the bottom of the stairs which we could make into a cupboard but the other side is a strange outhouse that has been knocked through. The opening to the outhouse isn't far enough along the exterior wall to allow us to have worktops along the side.

The only solution I can think of is to block the outhouse up which will allow us to have worktops all along that space. It does seem like a shame though as that outhouse is a good utility/pantry space.

Ignore the mess in the second photo - we had just pulled the ceiling down. That is the outhouse we are working with, quite an awkward space.

Does anyone have any ideas? I would be so grateful to hear them.

You could try and build a narrow door into the units to alow you to access the pantry, I've played with similar designs for clients before so it could be done. Let me know if you'd like help as I specilise in 3D modeling.

Note the built in pantry in the top left and mirrored doors to the boot room top right.

I’d say knock it down. It’s blocking light to the kitchen and is a prohibitive size for anything but a pantry, which you could use the under stairs cupboard for.

Replace doorway with a full-length window, a single glazed door or splash out on another set of french doors. have dining area there and put an L shaped kitchen on the right. May even be able to squeeze in a small island

The long black one is the back garden door way.The smaller one on the same wall is the door way leading to extension;s corridor. The black square at the front is the door way to enter the room. The white squares are the supportive pillars for the back wall and the long one is the chimney breast. Thank you for your answer :)

I would definitely go for a larger kitchen therefore a swap. Also if structure allows to remove this little bit of unnecessary wall by current kitchen entrance would make the space more open.( I think in the other plan I see it is happening?) the outside door swap for a window is a very good idea in my mind.

Hello everyone! I would love some advice on how to design the kitchen in our new build. As you can see from the design there is a long 4 m window at the front of the house. This will be quite low and will be 50 cm high, so basically it will act a bit as a splash back. So my question is: can I fit in 4 tall cabinets in the kitchen (1 for oven- 60 cm, 2 as pantry - 60 cm each and 1 for the fridge-80 cm)? I am starting to think I need to shorten that window as I would like the keep the feel of the kitchen bright and airy with an island with seating without over crowding the space and not blocking the passage into the living room on the left? Thoughts anyone? Ps: please disregard the design suggestion on the plan, it was put down in the first draft by the architect.
