Kitchen diner flooring advice

Hi,

I am having a real problem choosing flooring for our kitchen diner.

It's 64m2 of space, the worktops are oiled oak which have come up a honey colour.

We have dogs and kids, so I was thinking a wood effect LVT or laminate.

But what colour and any recommendations of brands that look like wood?

The design pic has a herringbone style but I have decided aganist this.

I have been looking at Amico and numerous other brands but it's not doing it for me. I would like them to look like planks of wood, some look like one complete floor and you can't see where a plank begins and ends.

I am not sure if I should go darker or lighter, I don't want to clash with the worktops.

Any advice would be great

I think you need to be careful with the colour choice. As you correctly say it will clash with the worktop if you’re not careful. Two different timber colours against each other in general don’t gel well.

thanks. What if it is lighter, do you think that works better than darker?

1st impression carry the island until your a meter from the 1/2 bath wall. Make it a galley with all base cabinets as drawer bases. Do not try to turn the cabinets along the 1/2 bath wall. consider adding a raised bar of 47 cm with to the dining room side.

You mentioned 12mm laminated floor yet you are asking about 'wood'. These are often two different floors. Are you asking about an engineered HARDWOOD that is 12mm thick or are you talking about a 12mm LAMINATED floor (fibre board with a pretty picture of wood on the top)? Engineered hardwood works well in a kitchen (just like Oak & Broad points out). Laminated flooring normally DOES NOT do well in a kitchen. That means the answer to your question could be "yes" or "no"....depending on which floor you are talking about. Please clarify.

I like the wood effect tile. If properly placed it might give the impression of an actual wood floor. Well apart from colour i guess one would have to conisder how easy they are to clean with stains and all. But more importantly how slippery they are when dry, when wet or when there is a little bit of oil on it.

hi there looking for advice for new kitchen floor 70s bungalow refurb - large open plan kitchen / living room - house is built on concrete slab and architect has included lots of large windows as kitchen end is south / southwest facing. read that dark colour in either polished concrete or natural stone carpet would gain most thermal mass gain energy wise (other than dark tiles which we want to stay away from) any thoughts advice would be appreciated! thanks

Not really. I don’t like the idea of 2 different timber colours together at all. Hubby (an established Joiner of 50 years) has always said to customer don‘t mix 2 different timbers. Could you have a different colour on the floor? What colour are your fascias? If they’re as the image above (2 tones of blue) then perhaps look at a grey flooring tone).
